Manager of Fund Treasury recruitment
Overview:
The Proprietary Fund Group ("PFG") is responsible for Western Asset ("WA") unregistered (non -1940 Act) branded Funds involving Domestic and Cayman LLC, LTD, and Private Equity Structures comprising over 58 Funds with ~$30 billion in AUM. It serves as oversight for the Bank of New York Mellon ("BNYM") as Fund Accounting and Administrative Agent, and is responsible for audits, financial statements, tax, and regulatory filings; as well as internal coordination for new fund launches and firm wide issues related to the Funds.
The demands on the PFG are constant and change rapidly in that WA is always exploring new product ideas. As a result, the manager must be able to multi-task and handle numerous responsibilities simultaneously.
The position requires regular interaction with senior management across WA, as well as PwC, BNYM, and regulators. As a result, a strong managerial presence, strong technical capabilities, and good communication skills are essential to the position.
Finally, PFG consists of 9 staff and a supervisor. The Manager must be able to mentor and develop the team to handle responsibilities as they arise, while maintaining an operating environment consistent with Operational Excellence practices.
Responsibilities:
- Reports to the Manager of Portfolio Administration and Fund Treasury and has responsibility for overseeing the daily operation of the Fund Treasury team’s handling of fund accounting activities.
- Responsible for the development and management of supervisor and staff administrators.
- Works closely with internal departments to ensure continuity of policy throughout the company.
- Interfaces with the applicable personnel internal and external to ensure that any urgent inquiries made of Western are acted upon in a timely basis.
- Coordinates audit, tax, and regulatory filings as required.
- Responsible for coordinating special projects as determined by the Manager of Portfolio Administration and Fund Treasury.
Competencies:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills (excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office).
- Strong supervisory and training development skills.
- 10+ years of related experience.
- Solid understanding of investment accounting and related tax issues.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting (or equivalent).
- MBA / CPA preferred
