MANAGER, Physician Prescribing Practices Job in Edmonton, Alberta Canada

Our client is looking for a MANAGER, PHYSICIAN PRESCRIBING PRACTICES to manage projects, supervise and empower staff and to participate in their management team.

You will provide guidance and direction for the Physician Prescribing Practices Department managing workflows to maintain an effective and efficient department as well as guide and support continuous improvement. The MANAGER, PHYSICIAN PRESCRIBING PRACTICES coordinates and supervises the Triplicate Prescription Program (TPP) and the Methadone Program, coordinate and support meetings of the TPP Steering Committee and the Physician Prescribing Committee, recommend policies and programs to improve physician prescribing practices and implement and manage approved policies and programs.

The MANAGER, PHYSICIAN PRESCRIBING PRACTICES liaises with public, physicians, and external bodies as they relate to Physician Prescribing Practices, the TPP and its functions as well as relevant external groups as they relate to medication use issues. Coordinating the collection of physician data from external sources, including PIN, AHCIP billing data, and Netcare data (lab test ordering, referral patterns, etc.), internal resources such as CPSA demographics and complaints, you will provide oversight for reporting and analysis, e.g. statistics and trends based on data from the TPP or prescription surveillance in general to inform individual practice performance and to identify trends and issues for resolution. You will also provide feedback to physicians on prescribing patterns to improve physician performance; assist physicians, pharmacists and the public with prescribing practice, medication use and TPP related issues; provide measurement and analysis to meet Physician Prescribing Practices objectives; provide oversight of methadone exemptions as required by Health Canada; liaises with faculty and universities for a methadone maintenance course; manage the review and oversight of methadone standards and guidelines; monitor Conditions and Restrictions and o versees the monitoring and follow-up on conditions and restrictions on physician practices'; Physician Wellness; assist the Assistant Registrar with oversight of the Physician Health Monitoring Program; support and empower staff in the Physician Prescribing Practices Department and the organization overall; provide ongoing coaching and develop support for department staff; complete probationary and annual performance evaluations for staff; act as a role model and, contribute to the overall organizations activities as a member of the management team.

Interacting with other managers and Secretariat to promote the organizations unity and provide guidance/direction to other staff members, the MANAGER, PHYSICIAN PRESCRIBING PRACTICES is responsible for responding to public inquiries and represents the organization on various external committees as assigned and participates in the organizations budget preparation and monthly financial reporting.

The MANAGER, PHYSICIAN PRESCRIBING PRACTICES will have excellent Quality Improvement Skills; effective communications skills and relationship-building abilities and have the ability to coach and develop staff. With specialized professional skills obtained through a Bachelor's Degree and a professional certificate in the area of specialty or equivalent, you are required to have at least 8 to 12 years of related experience. You will be forward thinking and anticipate and plan to deal with future events, trends, problems and opportunities and exercising good judgment and continuously looking for creative ways to improve processes and/or outcomes.
