Description Primary Function The Principal Supplier Engineer will have a background in procurement and supplier engineering. Responsible for providing technical leadership, diverse engineering support, insight, guidance, and problem solving skills to technical issues relating to sourced material and suppliers. Work in conjunction with Procurement to establish and attain cost reduction targets, develop and execute supplier strategies. Duties and Responsibilities Engage with Plant value stream operations to identify cost reduction opportunities in the Materials area, relating to supplier rationalization and upstream or outsourcing transfer of material to suppliers. Lead and manage supplier transfers and upstream BSC outsource projects through validation as well as cross-functional teams in the executing critical supplier improvement/cost reduction initiatives. Liaison between product development, quality engineering, regulatory, production, marketing, field service, and suppliers to assure that specifications, acceptance and testing criteria are clearly identified, documented and agreed to by all parties. Propose and initiate re-design ideas to engineering and supplier product development teams, resulting in a higher quality, more reliable and cost effective product. Provide technical and strategic support to commodity leaders related to buy transitions and understanding supplier price increases. Identify, qualify, and lead transition projects of new and second source suppliers. Perform make/buy analyses. Bridge the relationship between the Plant Value Stream and the supplier. Ensure that the appropriate resources are assigned to execute projects. Determine key technical competencies required by supply base and assist the supplier selection team in identifying appropriate global sources that excel in those competencies. Conduct due diligence of supplier facilities to identify and define/scope the process improvement opportunities and recommend appropriate approaches as well as quantify the opportunity. Participate in supplier survey evaluation audits to qualify new potential suppliers. Basic Qualifications Bachelor?s Degree Minimum 7 years experience in Operations or Supply Chain Advanced knowledge in Operations, Purchasing and Manufacturing Willing to travel 20% to 40% Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor?s in Electrical Engineering or Master?s in Business 8 years experience in Operations, in the medical device, Pharmaceutical, Biotech or Contract Manufacturing industry 4 years experience in Procurement Certified Six Sigma Black/Green Belt with demonstrated experience leading and consulting in performance improvement activities Ability to manage complex projects across multiple functions Ability to influence and gain commitment at all organizational levels Lead cross-functional and site-located teams Effective analytical, technical and project management skills and ability to execute and achieve results Outstanding written, verbal, facilitation and presentation skills Ability to manage multiple tasks and flexible with changing priorities
