Job Description: Dematic has an immediate need at our Grand Rapids, MI headquarters for a Manufacturing Engineer - Fabrication / Welding. This position will be responsible for concept, design, justification, and implementation of fabrication tooling and equipment ranging from processes, weld fixtures, jigs, assembly techniques to automated equipment for internal use. Primary Responsibilities: Evaluate new product designs and develop appropriate fixtures to fabricate a quality product in a cost effective manner. Develop manufacturing processes that will improve productivity, repeatability, and quality of end products and sub assemblies. Identify improvement opportunities in cost, quality, delivery, and safety. Develop and maintain operational procedures. Support of the fabrication and welding departments to ensure quality and productivity are optimized. Mechanical background with experience in a manufacturing environment. Requirements: Demonstrated advanced knowledge, understanding, practical experience of Lean Principles and tools with Six Sigma/ Black Belt certification preferred. Practical understanding of sheet metal fabrication, cutting, forming, welding, powder coat finishing, assembly, and packaging techniques. Strong problem solving, critical thinking decision making ability. BS in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline with 5 to 7 years of directly relevant experience. Desired Skills and Knowledge: Ability to communicate across the organization at all levels, from shop floor to leadership level. Knowledge and experience of MRP System (SAP), MS Office Suite software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Project). Understanding of design drafting, fixtures, jigs, AutoCad experience. Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA). Knowledge and use of GDT.
