Manufacturing Leader
AFL Telecommunications is an industry leader in providing fiber optic products, engineering expertise and integrated services to the telecommunications industry. We manufacture, engineer, and install the fiber optic products and equipment that communications providers need to provide high-speed voice, video and data services to their customers. Our extensive experience in both design and application crosses all markets, from Telecommunications, Broadband and Wireless, to Electric Utility, OEM, Enterprise and Private Networks.
The Manufacturing Leader will be a member of the cable manufacturing leadership team and will be responsible for leading multiple teams of manufacturing associates covering several production processes.
To be successful in the position, the Leader must be:
- Diligent in applying their leadership and production management skills and experience to meet safety, quality, production, and cost objectives in a fast-paced, build-to-order, cable manufacturing environment.
- Willing to accept complete ownership for their assigned area’s performance while demonstrating the leadership acumen to hold direct reports accountable for results.
- Analytical and driven by data and facts. It is expected that they will lead teams of operators, technicians, and engineers to achieve challenging goals, execute improvement projects, and resolve complex production related problems.
- Accountable for delivering tangible results in support of business plan objectives to include improvements in material yield, defect reductions, capacity utilization, productivity, delivery performance, cost management, work-in-process management, and inventory turns.
The position will report to the Manufacturing Manager and may be assigned to specific projects and/or responsibility for all aspects of one or more processes including the assigned operators and production lines.
The position is located at our Duncan, SC manufacturing facility which operates on a seven day, twenty-four schedule. To support operations, off-shift and weekend work will be required at times to meet project deadlines or support operational requirements.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage daily process performance to include staffing to meet demand, addressing safety concerns, insuring adherence to the production schedule, investing and resolving quality issues, and the initiation of corrective and preventative actions as appropriate.
- Sustain and improve plant housekeeping, safety, productivity, throughput, and material flow by applying lean manufacturing principles and conducting continuous improvement activities such as kaizen events to eliminate waste.
- Provide leadership and direction to assigned production associates including work-schedule management; individual performance feedback and assessments; and process training, development, and certifications.
- Define, measure, monitor, and share process performance metrics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Support the development and execution of annual business plan objectives to increase productivity, reduce waste, improve quality, and enhance safety.
- Lead, participate, and support cross-functional project teams to achieve defined objectives.
- Cultivate positive working relationships with support groups including the supply chain, commercial and development teams.

- Practical understanding of workplace 5S and lean manufacturing principles.

- User of manufacturing related modules in Oracle R12.
- Strong analytical, time management and technical writing skills.
- Intermediate or higher user of MS Office.
