Manufacturing Unit Manager

Job Description

 

Basic Function: Reporting to the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for the direction of all production teams to ensure optimum utilization of manpower and materials on equipment run according to schedule. This is necessary so that quality products will be made efficiently, at minimum cost, on time and in accordance with the approved business plan.

 

Principle Functional Responsibilities:

  1. Drives key safety initiatives, assuring resources are adequate to create an accident free culture.
  2. Responsible for total production of the unit and cell metrics including safety, production quantity, defect levels, waste, work order attainment, etc.
  3. Selects and coaches supervisors and other positions that help lead the manufacturing effort.
  4. Ensure manpower levels are monitored and adjusted.
  5. Direct teams in a manner to achieve proper motivation, performance, reward, and discipline for all production associates.
  6. Coordinate the maintenance of manufacturing data systems necessary to support the manufacturing process, and provide information for budgeting, capacity and planning processes.
  7. Effectively manage cross functional relationships with other departments to support effective use of manpower, materials, and equipment, as well as productivity and quality improvement initiatives.
  8. Promotes “on-the-spot” problem solving activity, supporting associates in cells with decisions and needs, ensuring progress toward operator led process control.

  7. Solid planning, leadership, and administrative skills
  8. High energy, demonstrates urgency and fast pace
  9. Good understanding of business principles and practices; can effectively manage the manufacturing function with a bottom line result.
  10. Ability to run a focused agenda

 

Desired Background:

  1. 5-7 years experience in manufacturing management with team based environment
  2. Strong database background, comfortable with a variety of software systems, including spreadsheets
  3. Strong manufacturing background; able to understand and develop appropriate product specifications

 

 

Education:

BS degree required – fields preferred:  engineering or related practical science, business or organizational management

THIS IS A TRAINING POSITON FOR NEW PLANT MANAGERS.  THE PERSON THAT ACCEPTS THIS JOB SHOULD BE OPEN TO POSSIBLE TRANSFERS/PROMOTIONS TO PLANT MANAGERSHIPS WHERE THEY MIGHT HAVE TO RELOCATE FOR THESE PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES.  MOST LIKELY BE IN KENTUCKY FROM 1-4 YEARS.  THEN BE READY FOR MOVEMENT WITHIN THE COMPANY TO OTHER LOCATIONS AS PLANT MANAGER.
