Market Analyst - (LPG)
Role synopsis
- This front office role involves liaising with various business units and external consultants to collate and analyse market information and work closely with market-facing traders to drive successful trading strategy. The goal of the department is to identify changes in supply and demand fundamentals and communicate the likely impact on price action to the traders in a timely fashion - this will help drive continued growth in trading profits. Analysts are primarily concerned with the provision of short term analysis to the Traders. Sitting alongside the Traders, they are expected to respond to requests for market analysis.
- Integral to this is the regular and standardised market reports that they create to help summarise recent changes in market conditions and provide insight on future expectations. Furthermore, analysts undertake ad hoc projects to investigate and answer specific problem statements on their commodity.
Key accountabilities
- Drive useful and insightful analysis for a designated global Trading Book in their region, using global procedures and processes
- Work closely with other Analysts and Lead Analysts to share knowledge and meet common objectives
- Identify and test opportunities for analysis that will support the requirements of their Traders
- Conduct analysis of commodity specific supply - demand balances and price forecasts to support or challenge the Trading Books positions
- Support the continuing development of the Analytics infrastructure, including the development of econometric supply and demand models and their impact on prices and margins
- Collaborate effectively with other Analysts, Traders and Shipping to help ensure alignment and promote better connectivity in the Analytics community
- Continually solicit requests for ad hoc analysis
Essential Education
- Strong academic background; preferably in Finance, Economics, Engineering or another quantitative background
Essential experience and job requirements
- Experience in Market Analytics and Fundamentals analysis
- A broad level of knowledge of financial and commodity markets
- Understanding of commodities price theory including fundamental drivers for supply, demand, trade flows and prices and their mutual interaction
- Be able to think creatively about the best approach for testing a hypothesis and solving a problem using relevant training and literature to help develop insights
- Developed numerical and statistical analysis skills including familiarity with time series analysis packages
- Has an understanding of current market trends, with specific focus on their Trading Book. Is able to readily apply this knowledge to form a view on relevant and interesting commercial insights for the business
- Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills that enable regular communication in the appropriate style for a multinational and multicultural audience
- Is a keen team member with a strong appreciation for the benefits of effective collaboration within the Analytics community and wider organisation
- Is a reliable and efficient member of the team that is keen to take accountability for specific projects and ensure they are executed to a high standard
- Is a self motivated and driven person with a desire to work in a market leading

Desirable criteria qualifications
- Experience in a position closely related to an energy trading environment
- Previous experience in refining
