The Team
The Risk Control team within Global Asset Management spans all business areas of the division and maintains a reporting line through to the Global AM Chief Risk Officer. The business manages ETFs, equities, fixed income, real estate, infrastructure, hedge fund and multi asset portfolios.
The Risk Control team is responsible for ensuring that UBS's market risk policies are implemented within Global Asset Management. It is expected that all risks taken are identified and captured in risk systems, models are subject to review, risk based guidelines and reports are implemented on funds where appropriate, and that the proprietary capital is monitored.
The Risk Control team is also responsible for ensuring that all market risk related regulatory requirements are adhered to. This covers UCITS at a fund level and ICAAP at a legal entity level. The team does daily monitoring of fund’s risk levels and metrics and provides reporting to fund boards on a monthly basis.
The team in London is focussed on UK and Irish domiciled funds in the equity, fixed income and multi asset investment areas. In addition the team oversees the real estate fund of funds business and local operations of the hedge fund. The team in Zurich is responsible for the ETF business, the direct real estate business, oversight of Germany (supported by the local part time headcounts) and of Italy. The new headcount in London is a result of the existing Zurich based headcount transferring to London and it is intended that the London team will collectively cover all of the items listed above.
Specific responsibilities for the role are:
- Daily risk reporting/analysis for an investment area (equity, fixed income, multi asset rotated through the team) using MSCI Risk Metrics and other internal sources
- Lead ETF oversight as key contact with product and portfolio management, chair of ETF risk committee, and liaison with Global AM Chief Risk Officer
- Lead development and implementation of the risk control framework for the direct real estate business on the risk control side and assist the EMEA Regional Head of Risk Control in liaising with the business on this initiative
It is also expected that as part of a team the individual helps
- Identify, summarise and provide input on key risks of funds
- Develop methodology to include VaR, stress testing, back testing, liquidity analysis, sensitivity and concentration measures
- Liaise with Portfolio Managers, Operations and IT for an efficient and robust implementation of Risk Control.
- Support the business with new product launches and assessment/approval of new funds and financial instruments.
Requirements:
- Must be self starter and proactive.
- Degree level education (ideally Masters) in a numerical subject, i.e. mathematics, physics, economics, finance, etc.
- Substantial relevant experience in a market risk environment
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of risk control techniques.
- Demonstrate understanding of financial products and portfolio management.
- Good quantitative programming skills, i.e. VBA in Excel/Access, understanding of SQL and database structures
- Good organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines, effective communicator both written and oral. German language skills would be advantageous but not essential.
- Ability to meet the needs of a global team.
- Experience with real estate would be advantageous but not essential.
