Market Risk Manager – Associate recruitment
Position Description
Morgan Stanley is seeking a quantitative risk manager for its Market Risk department, based in London.
The Market Risk Department (MRD) provides independent market risk oversight across the Firm’s trading activities. This encompasses risk monitoring and analysis, as well as reporting, capital calculation and regulatory functions.
The role is primarily to provide analytical support to desk-facing risk managers in Interest Rates, FX and Emerging Markets. The role involves a diverse range of risk management responsibilities and provides exposure across the sales and trading area as well as with other control groups inside Morgan Stanley. The successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of the full life-cycle of analytical risk projects from the design phase to implementation. Responsibilities include:
• Working independently as well as with Research and IT groups to develop and implement new risk analysis tools and measures.
• Running and improving scenario analysis and stress testing processes, using knowledge of markets and exposures to construct new scenarios and interpret results.
• Working independently and with Capital and Reporting groups to enhance the quality of risk analysis communicated to business units, senior management and regulators.
• Working with the business unit and model risk teams on risk representation and model risk issues.
Skills Required
Education
Suitable candidates will have an excellent academic background, including a degree or equivalent in a quantitative discipline, such as economics, finance, statistics/mathematics, sciences or engineering, as well as a higher degree or PhD related to any of the above areas.
Business Knowledge
Candidates will be expected to show good judgment of risks and an understanding of risk areas covered, including markets, models and products. Familiarity with interest rate and FX products in particular will be an advantage.
Strong proficiency with Excel and VBA is required as is a good working knowledge of databases and SQL.
Professional Skills
The role involves working closely with several other areas (such as Controllers, IT, Research, Model Risk and the Business Unit), therefore the candidate must be able to develop strong working relationships and be able to communicate clearly, both in writing and verbally.
Attention to detail, project management and prioritization skills will be key in balancing daily deadlines with timely implementation of strategic projects.
