Market Risk Manager – Investment Banking / Capital Markets recruitment
Purpose of Role Daily responsibilities are aligned to a market risk position with daily monitoring of market risk, setting market risk limits, communicating and escalating key risks and critical issues, reviewing new products, assisting with key regulatory initiatives and managing the systems infrastructure involved in delivering market risk management to the highest possible standards. Key Responsibilities The primary areas of responsibility for the role are as follows:
- Identifying, measuring, evaluating and approving applicable market risk in business unit activities, inventory positions and portfolios
- Devising and executing strategies to ensure that those risks are mitigated where possible, and do not exceed acceptable risk tolerances
- Approving market risk limit overages at the business unit level providing that these are temporary and do not cause a breach of legal entity limits
- Reporting relevant market risk exposures, trends and market conditions as appropriate to other senior risk and business unit managers, as well as to applicable committees
- Working with other senior risk management and business unit managers to develop standards, policies, practices and procedures that ensure compliance with overall corporate guidance on market risk activities, including permissible types, acceptable levels and appropriate capital allocations in accordance with both corporate policies and procedures and local legislation and regulations
- Deputising on behalf of senior management, when required
- Work with Front Office staff to develop and maintain quantitative models
Key Skills
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Good experience in a risk management role within corporate banking or investment banking
- Strong background in defining, identifying, evaluating, measuring, managing and reporting risk exposures
- Strong background in FSA and other key regulatory matters
- Excellent judgement and analytical skills
- Ability to work effectively with others and mentor junior team members
- Strong communication skills
- Strong decision making skills and personal conviction
Required Product Knowledge:
- Good knowledge of the various types of financial instruments used by the various desks and how to model their payoff profiles, greeks and related measures
- Knowledge of the various industry-accepted MR techniques including Value at Risk, Stress Testing and Scenario Analysis
- Knowledge of the regulation governing the market risk management of the bank.
Desirable Skills:
- Eperience with operational and/or technology platforms
- Good quantitative skills, including familiarity with economic capital allocation tools and methodologies
- Knowledge of RiskWatch system by Algorithmics is a definite advantage
