Market Surveillance Specialist recruitment
You will work closely with the Compliance department and Risk Officer (based in the London office), as well as the Liquidity Watch Team (based in the New York office) who execute all Liquidity Watch developments. You will also work closely with the Market Monitoring teams.
The Market Surveillance Specialist’s primary responsibility is to maintain an orderly market by proactively monitoring all our client’s members’ and participants’ trading activity and to monitor, investigate and escalate potential market abuse for potential reporting to the regulator.
The Market Surveillance function is fully integrated within the Legal Compliance Department. The role reports directly to the Head of Surveillance.
Responsibilities
- Monitor members’/participants’ trading activity by continuous coverage of all real-time alerts and coverage of T+1 alerts for compliance with the firm’s trading protocols and for potential market abuse under FSA rules.
- Investigating and documenting investigations of alerts and their resolution using the firm’s alert case management tool, including meaningful secondary analysis where appropriate.
- Record and investigate all inquiries raised by members/participants regarding another member’s/participant’s trading behaviour for breaches of trading protocol or potential market abuse.
- Internal escalation of potential market abuse for review and determination for potential referral to the FSA or other regulator.
- Monitoring and recording of patterns of trading for potential future referral to the FSA or other regulator.
- Pro-active interaction with the FSA Market Conduct team.
- Maintenance and updating of the mapping of surveillances to the corresponding sections of the FSA Code of Market Conduct (MAR) and identification of new market monitoring reports or alerts as required, including participation in their development, testing and implementation.
- Ongoing critical evaluation of monitoring systems, processes and procedures and ensure all market monitoring procedures are up to date with any new initiatives, market developments and regulatory changes.
- Participate in the conducting of the firm’s annual Compliance Audit.
- Contribute to the firm’s responses to FSA and European consultation papers on the Market Abuse Directive and other relevant legislation and rules.
Qualifications/Skills
- Demonstrated relevant experience.
- Experience working at an exchange or multilateral trading facility (MTF), or at a traditional sell-side brokerage/investment firm within their market monitoring or surveillance grou
- A genuine interest in financial markets, reads actively and is abreast of current state of market and economy.
- Knowledge of the FSA’s Code of Market Conduct and definitions of market abuse.
- Ability to analyze trading and system data to identify potential market abuse and trading trends, conduct secondary analysis as appropriate and document resolutions and conclusions.
- Experience in interacting with and/or preparing referral reports to the FSA’s Market Conduct team.
- Strong industry knowledge is needed and the candidate must keep current with the latest in the securities and investment industries.
- Ability to prioritise and manage competing tasks.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
