The employer is an association of companies from the mobile wireless industry who work together to develop specifications that will result in the deployment of interoperable services. Their membership consists of more than 130 companies that influence the wireless industry. Members include many of the most influential companies in the mobile industry. Much of the work of the Communications Manager will focus on describing the company’s progress back to their member companies and to relevant companies not currently affiliated with this organization. This a newly created position.
The successful candidate will be able to:
· demonstrate the ability to comprehend moderately technical material and help place that material in context for non-expert consumers
· Write well and produce material quickly
· Interview subject-matter experts and convert those interviews into usable content
· Manage a review process
· Manage contractors such as web and graphic designers as needed.
· Should have a working competency with the key tools needed for online publishing and social media campaigns.
The major specific duties include:
Inbound speaker requests:
· Qualification of the event
· Sourcing of speakers
· Negotiation of optimum placement within the event
· Management of speaker, material, and delivery of the product
· Follow up of enquiries, redistribution, echo-chamber.
Message management
· Develop and get agreement on key messages
· Ensure messaging discipline
· Keep abreast of market to ensure relevance of key messages.
Development of press releases and collateral
· Most of the companies press releases and collateral are pro-active
· Develop a rolling 12 month press release calendar based on the company’s release plan.
· Develop the press release language, manage internal approval
· Manage the press release distribution process and follow up.
· Development of newsletters
Working with key stakeholders in the organization, create a simple and informative quarterly newsletter for internal and selected external distribution.
Website and social media
- Manage the online presence of the company. Much of the public website is devoted to current information about the company. The successful candidate will be able to deliver refreshed content to the website with the assistance of contracted webmasters and graphic designers as needed.
- Manage the conversation in the social media environment. The company does not today have a comprehensive social media communications strategy, although it is in a good position to take advantage of one. You will be a key contributor to the development of the social media strategy and will be key to the management and focused listening needed to make the strategy work.
