Position Description:

BUILDING PRODUCTS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Six to eight years of industrial products industry experience, specifically with four to five years experience in marketing building products to the retail channel. Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business or related disciplines or equivalent direct marketing experience in the retail channel.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Marketing Manager – Retail Channel reports to the Marketing Manager - Residential Segment. A successful candidate will have responsibility for:
• Key understanding of home improvement or building products and the successful promotion of them to the retail audience is essential.
• Contribute to the overall residential market strategy by an insightful understanding of the retail consumers
• Will help direct the product development efforts to optimize our product portfolio.
• Identify, track and make recommendations regarding retail trends that will allow us to create a level of understanding on how to effectively differentiate product and service offering.
• Drive and manage cross functional product development teams as project leader for new gypsum products with the Innovation and RD team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Prepare and execute Marketing plans within the new customer/product matrix for profitability of existing business and growth of new market opportunities.
• Develop and evaluate new product or business opportunities that support CertainTeed Gypsum’s strategic growth objectives.
• Gaining consensus from the Innovation Steering Committee on prioritizing product and program investments will be a consistent role.
• Participate in and recommend overall strategies with Communications Manager for all collateral elements of the marketing mix - advertising, trade promotion, packaging and literature.
• Develop thorough knowledge of customer base including basic market position, strategies, buying habits, strengths and weaknesses, and national preferences.
• Develop thorough understanding of end user including basic profiles, needs, buying habits, regional or national preferences.
• Work with Communications department to produce effective promotional materials for customers/products
• Work with National Accounts to ensure retail strategies are properly aligned.
• Integrally work with RD for product development initiatives
• Liaise with Technical Services team for field testing, quality audits, and technical bulletin initiatives
• Liaise with manufacturing, finance, and other departments to lead customer/product initiatives

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participation in trade and buying group shows, and industry organizations.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business or related disciplines or equivalent experience.
• Six to eight years of industrial products industry experience, specifically with four to five years experience in marketing building products to the retail channel.
• Strategic pricing, product, promotion and distribution experience
• Experience in market research and analysis
• Ability to direct communications development including advertising and merchandising
• Proficient with MS Office
• High detail orientation with ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously

• Possibly supervise an Intern Role of Marketing Analyst

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Office environment majority of time
• Overnight travel in the US and Canada (20-30%)
• Customer, job site, and plant visits
• Exposure to chemicals, noise, dust and temperature changes when visiting plant locations and construction sites.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Plant visits require wearing and use of personal equipment as mandated
• Plant visits may provide access limitations such as stairs, confined areas and rough terrain.
• Will normally fly on airlines and use rental cars during travel
