SAGE Publications, a leading academic and professional publisher of books, journals, and electronic media, located in Thousand Oaks, California, with offices in London, India, Singapore, and Washington DC, is currently seeking a Marketing Manager, Journals . The role of the Marketing Manager is to plan and implement effective marketing strategies for electronic products; including book and journal-related products and offerings that build the brand and drive sales, online usage, circulation growth and retention. Emphasis is on developing strategic product marketing plans and budgets that support Editorial and Sales business needs. The Marketing Manager heavily utilizes innovative electronic marketing, and may also strategize, promote and/or administer company approved social media activities, including SAGE-owned blogs, and internal or external social networking web sites. *Two Positions Available * *Can either work in Thousand Oaks or Washington DC Office* The job functions include, but are not limited to, the following: Creation and Implementation of Marketing Plans - As indicated by the nature of journal and expected revenue, the Marketing Manager is responsible for creating and implementing specific marketing plans for selected products in assigned disciplines/markets - Detailing marketing plans will be developed for key titles. Include in plan key product/information, market information, competitive information (if relevant), unique selling proposition, competitive advantages, planned promotional and publicity activities, schedule/calendar of marketing efforts and additional information outlined on plan - Review and revise plans monthly to ensure original plans are being followed, and to adjust marketing spend and activities. - Work closely with other publishing divisions to successfully integrate marketing activities, and maximize sales, as appropriate. Direct Response Planning and Execution - Plan direct marketing efforts, within budget, in conjunction with Marketing Associate(s) - Select and appropriate formats/marketing channels and approve direct mail and email campaigns created by MarCom team - Identify appropriate audiences and approve lists selected by Marcom team - Assign and supervise responsibilities of Marketing Associate(s) throughout marketing production processes - Manage quantity and quality of work of staff Budgeting and Forecasting - Budget and forecast sales of assigned products and expenses on an annual and quarterly basis - Monitor sales (and other measures of success) of assigned products and adjust marketing efforts and expense spending accordingly to ensure maximum sales and profitability Editorial and Production Input Support - Provide input and constructive suggestions, and ideas to editorial staff on sales and circulations projections, product content, market placement, and product classification of proposed and established titles - Support signing efforts of editorial staff through communications of marketing and sales process and expectations as needed - Work closely with Editorial and Production staff to relay market needs and feedback, suggested product improvements, and timing requirements for forthcoming titles Copywriting, Editing, Proofreading - Ensure quality writing, editing and proofing of all promotional copy - Manage and supervise staff or freelance writers as needed Conference Attendance - Travel to and represent company at 3-6+ conventions each year - Set up and break down booth as scheduled - Conduct sales of products at booth, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery (to Customer Care) of orders - Arrange and host special events, as needed - Interact professionally with authors, editors, customers, and vendors Customer / Author / Editor Relations - Act as representative of the company when dealing with potential or existing customers and editors - When communicating with customers and editors, take appropriate actions to ensure they have a positive experience with and image of the company.
