Position Description:
This position conducts, maintains, tests and repairs Electrical/Electronic, Mechanical, Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems and components.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Master Mechanic:
- Applies:
- Knowledge of Electrical/Electronics and Mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions.
- Skills in restoring equipment to operation.
- Provides skilled Mechanical and Electrical/Electronic support to all areas of Manufacturing.
- Troubleshoots and repairs Mechanical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Electrical/Electronic equipment including, but not limited to:
- Variable Frequency Drives
- Programmable Controls
- Discreet Controls
- Power Supplies
- Drives
- Gauges
- Test equipment
- Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of:
- Electrical/Electronic and Mechanical theories and principles
- Local and national Electrical codes
- UL 508 standards
- Properties of various materials
- Principles of operation
- Application of electronic equipment
- Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with Company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown, as well as in line with OSHA requirements.
- Advises Operators and Line Mechanics of Operation Procedures and Requirements for working safely with Electrical/Electronic and Mechanical equipment and components.
- Informs appropriate Management and Production personnel of potential Electrical/Mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.
- Provides technical expertise in the area of Equipment Operation and Equipment/Production Line upgrading that enhances safety and/or improves productivity.
- Assists in the organization, scheduling and performance of Preventive Maintenance tasks.
- Maintains Company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
- Fabricates and/or coordinates the fabrication of unique parts.
- Troubleshoots and monitors HVAC, as well as refrigeration and chilling equipment for maintenance and repair.
- Assists in:
- Parts Supplies Inventory Control and Purchasing; defines and maintains critical parts.
- Project planning and layout.
- And trains other Maintenance and/or other technical-level employees.
- Performs other duties as required.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Must have or be qualified and able to obtain a State of Washington Maintenance Electrical License (EL07) within 90 days of accepting the position
- High School education or equivalent, and/or a two-year technical degree or accredited apprenticeship program OR the equivalent in a technical field
- 8-10 years of proven experience in the Manufacturing field performing multi-craft functions including:
- Electrical
- Welding
- HVAC
- Mechanical
- Pneumatics
- Hydraulics
- Specifications
- Electrical Codes
- UL Standards
- 5+ years of experience in Electrical Controls with particular emphasis on knowledge of Motor and Process Controls
- Capability of working on multiple projects in a fast-paced Manufacturing environment
- Ability to organize workload, determine priorities, and monitor and meet deadlines
- Expert knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems
- Strong computer skills (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, Internet software, databases, PLCs, email)
- Ability to work well with all levels of employees, whether individually or in a team environment
- Must be able to interface and communicate with Line Operators in order to assist with repairs and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of proper use of Electrical Test equipment, power tools and hand tools
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to:
- Read, analyze and interpret general technical periodicals, technical procedures, blueprints, schematics, assembly drawings and governmental regulations
- Write basic reports, correspondence and procedure manuals
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and/or schedule form
- Work independently, as well as exercise good judgment and responsibility in performing job duties
