Material Handling Automation Engineer (Electrical Engineer)(Greenville, SC) Job in Greenville, South Carolina US
Position Description:
The Material Handling Automation Engineer will develop functional and technical specifications, perform Electrical design, and accomplish material handling and other design projects in North American Michelin manufacturing plants. This is sometimes accomplished through the management of material handling contractors.
Position Responsibilities:
- Design systems and technical specifications to achieve function requirements to Michelin NA and Group equipment standards. (Allen-Bradley PLCs)
- Provide project management support for new machines, systems, or improvement modifications.
- Assistance in technical problem solving/analysis of existing equipment.
- Assist to define functional specifications for new machines, systems, or improvement modifications.
- Start-up assistance and qualification/acceptance support for new machines/systems.
- Assurance of complete and current technical documentation.
- Develop training material for new and existing technology and provide training to factory personnel.
- Provide formal documentation to support the above activities and maintain proper document management consistent with Michelin's Quality System.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- BS Electrical Engineering degree (or technical equivalent).
- Minimum of 3 years industrial experience (preferably dealing with Material Handling projects in a manufacturing environment).
- Applicant must be willing to travel (domestic and some international) - 30-40% Travel Required (Project-based travel).
Other Qualifications:
- The applicant must have electrical design skills and the ability to deal with electrical material handling equipment (PLC Programming, HMI Design, etc).
- The applicant is preferred to have material handling expertise in theory, operation, and maintenance of conveyance and storage equipment to achieve a desired plant process capability.
- Applicant must have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. The applicant must be able to develop positive relationships with customers.
- Applicant must be well organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. The applicant must provide examples of project management (multiple small up to large projects).
- Applicant must have strong communication skills with the ability to influence and resolve issues. Both written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Applicant must maintain a high degree of confidentiality in dealings with outside contractors and equipment suppliers.
Computer/Software Skills Required:
- Applicant must be proficient in PLC Programming (Allen-Bradley PLCs).
- Applicant must be proficient in AutoCad for use in Panel Design and Documentation.
- Applicant must be proficient in HMI Design (preferably based on prior experience with material handling systems)
- Applicant must be experienced with various drives, motors, and sensors from an installation and programming/set-up standpoint.
- Experience with Vision Systems (programming, installation) is preferred.
- Applicant must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint).
Preferences:
- Ability to communicate with French counterparts on technical issues is preferred.
