Responsibilities:

As a Specialty Engineer, this position supports the United Launch Alliance - Decatur, Alabama, Materials Processes Engineering (MPE) team with work assignments to include the following:

Candidate will have an entry level knowledge of:

Multiple welding processes and problem solving skills within an Aerospace Production environment.

Interface with engineering and operations personnel and be expected to develop and communicate solutions to manufacturing process issues.

Weld tool design and applications. Welding tooling, master equipment lists, and shop-floor process validation

Non-destructive inspection methods.

Develop resolutions to shop floor problems and coordinate specification changes with the design center such as rework, repair, and coordination of specification changes.

Candidate will assist senior engineers in the following areas:

Identify measure improve production welding processes to enable first time quality of delivered launch vehicle end items.

Train and certify technicians and inspectors in Aerospace Resistance (RSW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) and Orbital Tube Welding.

Experience with development and qualification of RSW and GTAW schedules.

Review visual, dye penetrant, and x-ray discrepancies and disposition rework/repair instructions to resolve welding defects.

Provide real time welding support with welding machine and joint set-ups, machine malfunctions, weld schedule issues, and interpretation of blueprints and weld specifications.

Work will require frequent interaction with other inter-organizational groups, such as: Facilities, Tooling, Production, Production Engineering and others, such as Equipment Contractors.

External Basic Qualifications:

·         BS in Engineering or related discipline including Welding Engineering

·         Experience or education with aluminum welding

·         Experience or education in Friction Stir Welding

·         2 years of work experience in project management or tool design

·         Must be able to work 2nd shift and weekends

External Preferred Qualifications

·         Proficient with Microsoft office software (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

·         Practical experience with resistance and gas tungsten arc welding

·         Weld system programming

·         Demonstrate ability to effectively interface with onsite customers

·         Knowledge of military and industry process applications and standards as related to launch vehicle production

·         Demonstrated ability to interpret tests and data in the solution of problems

·         Good Oral and Writing Skills

·         Interface with engineering and operations personnel and be expected to develop and communicate solutions to manufacturing process issues.
