Materials Handling Engineering Manager
This mine consists of two sites, both which have some of the highest grade iron ore in the world and will produce around 18 million tons per year with an initial operating life of 20 years. Construction of the site will consist in the expansion of an existing air strip as well as a new build, a 143km railway build, ship loading docks, accommodation center to suit more than 500 people, an all season roadway, assessing the amount of fuel needed for each year and type of containment that would be best and most feasible, build a causeway for access between sites, assess the amount of explosives needed for rock breaking and construction of a storage facility.

Manage all materials handling engineering aspects of the project as a key member of a relatively small owner's team.
Main Accountabilities:
· Provide materials handling engineering expertise across all areas of the project (mine, rail, port and infrastructure).
· Ensure capital cost, operating cost, constructability and operability considerations are addressed in trade-off studies as part of the optimization of each technical solution.
· Of particular importance it to ensure that project designs are optimized from an operability perspective.
· Challenge the engineering team on technical solutions to ensure the best solution is achieved.
· Review and sign off all materials handling engineering plans/drawings from an owner's perspective.
· Management of suppliers, technical consultants and construction contractors.
· Provide engineering input during field investigations, studies and project planning.
· Participate in technical discussions with designers, EPC(M) contractors and external consultants.
· Support construction in technical, operational and safety domains.
· Provide input to and monitor contracts, cost estimates and project schedules within area of expertise.
· Communicate to management any technical deviations and risks within area of expertise and coordinate corrective measures with the project team.
· Provide input and technical/operational into project engineering plans to ensure that operational scope is met.
· Interface effectively with key individuals internal and external to the company on various issues. This may include contractors, communities, government, aboriginal groups, etc.
· This is a Toronto-based position although the individual must be able to spend extended periods at the project site. A site rotation may be implemented.
Education and Experience:
· B. Eng. with more than 20 years experience in large materials handling engineering projects in the mining industry.
· Eligible for registration as a professional engineer in Nunavut.
· Extensive experience in multidisciplinary design teams for large projects.
· Thorough knowledge of relevant design standards.
· Materials handling operational experience in remote Northern/Arctic conditions.
· Extensive experience working with EPC(M) and/or technical consultants.
· Large project management experience in feasibility, design, construction and commissioning phases.
· Good knowledge of contract management.
· Experience in infrastructure and/or civil engineering would be an advantage.
