Position Description

This entry level position involves engineering responsibilities for mechanical standards used in all Boeing products. Works under general supervision. Mechanical standards include fasteners, bearings, bushings, cables, and other systems standards used in all Boeing airplane models. Responsibilities include from development of new standards, testing, writing and maintenance of standard process specs, assessment and qualification of suppliers, support implementation in manufacturing, to supporting Boeing customers on mechanical standards related issues. Develop and maintain standard specifications and design manuals for mechanical parts standards. Conduct research and develop testing program as required to meet design requirements. Define requirements for materials, parts, tools, and processes used in the manufacture of products. Produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of mechanical standards, tools and process required to install the standards. Maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations. Promote standardization across business activities. Evaluate emerging technologies in standards for potential application in order to meet business needs. Develop and qualify new mechanical standards to support Product Development and existing Boeing programs. Provide technical support to internal Boeing customers as well as suppliers on quality improvement, productivity improvement, and cost reduction initiatives related to mechanical standards. Address fleet issues associated with mechanical standards. Support supplier technical audit programs to ensure continued quality. Support quality/cost/capacity initiatives to meet business unit objectives. Conduct failure analysis to determine reasons for failures of materials, parts, or processes.

Typical Education/Experience

Level 1 - Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. Level 2 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 2 or more years' experience or a Master's degree with experience. Other Job related information

Must possess outstanding people, project management, and communication skills in addition to technical skills. Some travel will be required to support supplier qualification, audits of mechanical standards suppliers, and to support other Boeing sites.
