Horizon Oil Sands
Horizon Oil Sands is an exciting part of our growth. Full production capacity for Phase 1 is 110,000 bbl/d of fully upgraded, light, sweet synthetic crude oil. We will see incremental production gains throughout the completion of future expansion and debottlenecking, with targeted full facility capacity of approximately 250,000 bbl/d. Further phases of expansion will bring the ultimate capacity to 500,000 bbl/d.

Position Summary
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Our Horizon Oil Sands operation is expanding with project spending for 2012 forecasted at approximately Billion with similar spending projected each year for the next 5 years.
The Mechanical Engineer will participate in all areas and phases of new capital projects from inception to completion.
Capture the opportunity to improve on current design and technologies by evaluating, developing, and implementing innovative solutions
Demonstrate your expertise by resolving design issues and trouble shooting problems in a collaborative manner
Interact with Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) contractors and internal multi-disciplinary engineering disciplines throughout the project phases from design, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning to start-up of the completed projects
HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
Supervise, coordinate and inspect the efforts of the engineering consultants and construction contractors
Responsible for the design decisions for the processes and systems encompassing the following:
o Rotating Equipment
o Static Equipment
o Piping
Accept or reject any deviation from design standards, industry codes and/or Horizon engineering practices and applicable procedures as well as input to resolution of non-conformances
Review and endorse field changes being proposed by the engineering consultants and construction contractors
Responsible for performing walk down inspections of the mechanical systems to review completeness and compliance with project specs and determining the acceptance of equipment
Foster a productive work environment and open communication with the other Horizon project teams and business units
Contribute to contract development, project management systems, software and knowledge of engineering information technology

Tailings Transfer Treatment Plant
Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Stripper and debottlenecking project
QUALIFICATIONS:
Typically 5+ years related industry experience coupled with an Engineering Degree
Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA
Familiarity with and understanding of:
o Working with/for engineering consultants
o Project management practices
