Eaton Corporation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support our Electrical Sensing Division of our Aerospace Business. This role will be based out of our Costa Mesa, CA location.
The selected candidate will be responsible for conceiving new designs and researches state of the art mechanical designs for aerospace applications. Also responsible for continuous improvements of existing released products to meet specific customer requirements. These activities will include analysis to assure compliance to customer specifications and industry requirements. Prepare documentation required to define these products and verify compliance to customer requirements. Prepare documentation required to fulfill Eaton’s product development process, PROLaunch.
This position additionally supports engineering management in making business decisions; develops program time/schedule estimates, budgets, bid and proposal efforts; and makes staffing decisions as appropriate to mechanical design activities.
A. Review customer specifications and determine compliance to requirements and/or note exceptions.
Review project-related documentation to ensure its accuracy.
B. Contribute to successful project completion by participating in the resolution of issues such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard material, and difficult coordination issues.
C. Creates new products through improvements of existing products to support customer, using applicable industry standards, regulatory, and market requirements.
D. Conduct engineering analysis and prepare documentation required to fulfill Eaton’s PROLaunch requirements. Analyze designs through the use of finite element analysis (FEA) and thermal analysis. Verify computer-generated results with conventional calculations.
E. Responsible for complete designs from concept to qualification. Create prototype and conduct engineering development testing to support analysis and assure compliance to established requirements.
F. Work with customers, suppliers, project managers and other engineering disciplines to optimize designs and identify cost trade-offs.
G. Prepare for and participate in Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs) and Critical Design Reviews (CDRs) to ensure product meets design criteria.
H. Verify completed drawings, reports, ECOs and BOMs for clarity, completeness and conformity to standards, procedures and specifications. Verify accuracy of calculations, GDT dimensioning and tolerancing.
I. Works with manufacturing engineering on concurrent engineering designs meeting manufacturability and cost goals using DFMA and DFSS techniques.
J. Coordinate with Sales, Marketing, and customers to determine design requirements for future and existing products.
K. Initiate and promote generation of new ideas and document them for possible future patent application and protection.
Position Criteria
- Must have the ability to communicate technical information, whether written or verbal to other functional departments throughout the organization. Includes creation and participation of group presentations.
- Ability to demonstrate analytical problem solving.
- Strong project management and organization skills.
- Timeliness of estimates and reports for engineering projects.
- Strong communication skills with emphasis on technical writing and presentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Engineering
- Aerospace experience
- CATIA experience is desired. Experience in SolidWorks and/or Pro-Engineer is a plus.
- Knowledge of MatrixOne or other PDM system for documentation control and workflow
- Working knowledge of Design For Six Sigma (DFSS), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Experience with ANSYS or other FEA tool
- Experience with DO-160 and MIL-STD-810
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
- 3 years of mechanical engineering experience utilizing 3D CAD
- Candidate must be legally authorized to work in United States without company sponsorship.
