Horizon Oil Sands
Horizon Oil Sands is an exciting part of our growth.  Full production capacity for Phase 1 is 110,000 bbl/d of fully upgraded, light, sweet synthetic crude oil.  We will see incremental production gains throughout the completion of future expansion and debottlenecking, with targeted full facility capacity of approximately 250,000 bbl/d.  Further phases of expansion will bring the ultimate capacity to 500,000 bbl/d.

This position is based in Fort McMurray, Alberta and is eligible for:
* Relocation to Calgary or Fort McMurray
* Company Sponsored Fly In/Fly Out and Camp Accommodation Program with charter flights available from Calgary or Edmonton

Position Summary

THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for promoting safe work practices, supporting production goals and objectives, and providing cost effective Mechanical Engineering support for the Upgrading and Utilities business unit at the Horizon Oil Sands plant site.
* Provide budgets and long range cost estimates for both operating and capital expenses
* Interface with all areas in Upgrading and Utilities as well as other areas across Operations

LEADERSHIP: 
* Oversee and direct hiring activity, training and development and performance management across team
* Spearhead team activity and delegate and distribute workload to align activity with wider business objectives
* Ensure budgetary and scheduling targets are met
* Develop broader outlook and longer-term strategy
* Ensure compliance with all regulatory issues related to business area
* Lead and promote safety culture and safe operations within business area

HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
* Manage a highly functional group to provide quality assurance in support of operation and maintenance in design, reliability and project engineering
* Steward the implementation of processes and procedures to govern engineering design and development, work flow processes, change management and document controls
* Provide engineering for sustaining capital, expense and strategic projects
* Responsible for establishing and executing the reliability program to assure equipment and process integrity, resolve reliability constraints and guide a reliability based maintenance program
* Lead the communication integration amongst engineering, operations and maintenance to effectively prioritize and address plant operational issues and constraints
* Develop, manage and steward the budget for engineering and sustaining capital projects
* Develop and implement short-term and long-term strategic goals to meet operational objectives, assure asset integrity, develop staff succession planning and achieve project growth plans
* Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are developed, implemented and maintained

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Typically 15+ years of industry experience with Engineering Degree
* Registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer in Alberta with APEGGA Familiarity with and understanding of:
   o Working in a large scale operation, preferably oil sands and/or refineries/chemical plants
   o Supervising and developing a team
