Mechanical Engineering Supervisor

FARO is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Supervisor to work as part of the FaroArm® and LLP Development team.

FaroArms are true portable CMMs; they allow customers to improve product quality and make it easy to perform accurate measurements of complex parts.

This is a hands-on design job. A suitable candidate must be proficient in part design, material selection, assembly/machine design, and product development, 3D modeling of parts/assemblies in SolidWorks, creation of 2D and process drawings for quoting, material procurement, and production assembly, fabrication and assembly of prototype hardware, development documentation and assembly of small production tools and assembly fixtures, and assembly and test of product and packaging. Must be able to work in a team environment with minimal supervision to plan and accomplish specific objectives and to complete tasks per a defined schedule. 

This is a hands-on mechanical design engineering position that also includes supervision of the ME team (engineers, designers, machinist.)  The position requires supervision of the Mechanical Engineering function as well as the development of new or enhanced mechanical elements of the organization’s line of products.

1. Manage the design and development of new products, determine project requirements and objectives, establish project parameters and schedules, assign individual and team goals to staff, provide oversight/technical expertise as needed, ensure that team is provided with proper resources and training required to execute job responsibilities. 

2. Collaborate with engineering personnel specializing in electronic, mechanical and software development to coordinate the overall product definitions and requirements. 

3. Create the overall project design using 3D solid modeling processes, capturing the design intent. Perform complex design tasks. 

4. Maintain documentation while tracking the progress of the assigned project, and ensure documentation of effort by team. Evaluate projects as they progress to ensure integrity with the initial intent. 

5. Conduct mechanical engineering analysis with finite element models, including structural and thermal analysis of systems and components. Evaluate and document the results of the analysis. 

6. Develop and implement testing procedures. Evaluate and document test results. 

7. Provide input to departmental and company procedures to correct problems or deficiencies, recommending and implementing changes where indicated and approved. 

 8.  Must have excellent written and spoken communication skills and be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship or visa.
 

 

* BSME minimum. MSME desired. SolidWorks proficiency required.
* Must have at least 10 years development experience, and 2 years minimum of lead or supervisory experience.
* Must be proficient in design of  parts and products for manufacturing and assembly.
* Must be experienced in design of precision machined, die cast, and plastic injection molded parts.
* Products include articulated arm portable CMMs and laser line probe/scanners.
* Also responsible for design of custom fixtures and calibration equipment used in manufacture and service of these devices.
