Mechanical Project Engineer
Location: Alfreton
Salary: £30 per hour Ltd co.
Department: Water Treatment Department
Duration: 3-4 Months
Reports to: Project Engineering Manager
Main Purpose of Job:
To project manage and engineer the mechanical equipment and associated plant for a contract to enable the project to be completed within the budget and time constraints to an overall quality standard.
Key Tasks:
1. Management of sub-contractors and assistance in the placement of sub-contract and material orders.
2. Technical expertise in the placement of sub-contracts and material orders relating to mechanical equipment.
3. Vetting of sub-contractors.
4. Planning and programming. Preparation of project programme for mechanical aspects of work and to advise personnel of progress and forecast.
5. Quality Assurance – To maintain quality assurance records in accordance with the Company procedures.
6. Engineering design – Approval and vetting of sub-contractors designs in accordance with the specification requirements.
7. Production of operating and maintenance manuals.
8. Attending site progress meetings and production of reports.
9. Co-ordination of mechanical, electrical and civil works in co-operation with the Design Co-ordinator.
10. Inspection of equipment as required.
11. Advising the Quantity Surveyors of changes to specification and the financial impact on a project.
12. Technical assistance to the Contract Manager and Quantity Surveyor regarding contractual disputes if required.
13. Client liaison and correspondence.
14. Provide training of client’s personnel complete with manuals as required.
15. Actioning maintenance repairs during the defects liability period.
16. Any other duties which may reasonably be requested by management
Personal Qualities
Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work in a team environment. The need to pay attention to detail is critical. Should possess good communication skills and have an outgoing personality. The person must be capable of supervising site staff if required.
Qualifications and Specialist Training
Preferably degree qualified in mechanical engineering.
Job Experience
Must have at least five years’ experience working in a contractor-based background within the water industry on sewage and water treatment works.
Specialist Knowledge/Competences
Ideally be knowledgeable in all project engineer/management techniques required in the design and construction of water and/or sewage treatment works. An understanding of conditions of contract and budget control is also required. The person shall also be computer literate and possess good negotiating skills.
