Mechanical Project Engineer
Alcoa is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer. This position will help manage the discipline engineering team to ensure that all technical documentation is executed in accordance with the project requirement for quality, while respecting the pre-established constraints for budget (capital and services costs) and schedule. Maintain an ongoing working relationship with the other Lead Discipline Engineers, the Area Managers, and with the key procurement, controls and construction team members. JOB DIMENSIONS: * The Mechanical Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager for the execution of Project operational tasks. Maintains working relationships with the corresponding Client Relationship Manager. Maintains functional relationship with Area Managers and Project Controls Manager. * Provide direction to direct reports within the project team. * The Mechanical Engineer plays a key role in the development of the facility design (including layouts and selection/procurement of equipment). As such, they have a considerable influence on the success of the Project team in achieving budget and operating performance requirements. * Maintains working relationship with all of the following: Area Managers, Controls Manager, Procurement Manager, Construction Manager, Pre-Commissioning Manager, QA Manager, Site Resident Engineer, Other Lead Discipline Engineers. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: To plan and direct the mobilization and demobilization of the discipline personnel to ensure that suitable qualified engineers, technicians and draft persons will be available as and when required to: * Prepare a list of engineering deliverables for the discipline (coded in such a way that they can be sorted by discipline, facility or work package) and indicating the hours required per document, to permit the planning and control of the engineering budget and schedule (PM+). * Prepare all technical documentation required for the execution of the Project, including but not limited to: General layout drawings, Design criteria, Preliminary studies, Process flow sheets, Single-line diagram, Process and Instrumentation diagram, Value engineering studies, Standard specifications, Standard detail drawings, Construction and/or fabrication drawings, Equipment lists, Instrument Index, Technical specifications and As built drawings * Manage and coordinate the progress of the discipline engineering work in accordance with the project scope, schedule and procedures. * Ensure Reliability and Maintainability needs are designed in to the equipment and facility from the very beginning (avoiding rework and cost). * Ensure plant layouts and equipment are designed in-line with Alcoa s Values (including safety, sustainability, environment). * Review shop drawings to ensure conformity with engineering designs. * Monitor the fabrication and construction work (after the award of contracts and purchase orders), to ensure that it is executed in accordance with the engineering design. * Control Engineering Budgets and Schedules. * Use PM+ (or other software) to measure, on a monthly basis, the progress of the discipline engineering work packages, to ensure that the budgets and schedules are being met. If necessary, take corrective action. * Ensure that the quality audits of engineering work are carried out in accordance with the Project Instructions and the quality assurance plan. * Ensure that the checking of documentation and interdisciplinary coordination is carried out in accordance with the Project Instructions. * Establish and maintain a climate favorable to the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of the discipline engineering work. * Train and aid his subordinates in their personal development. Basic Qualifications * Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in mechanical engineering. * Minimum of 5 years of experience with mechanical project engineering and plant maintenance with primary aluminum smelting facilities, including the interfacing and management of EPCM contracts; project management control systems, specifically in cost and schedule engineering of design and construction projects including: * Scheduling and scheduling software * Estimating methodologies * Project Reporting to management, * Cost control of capital projects, * Writing and executing project work packages * Monitoring and supervising construction activities Preferred Qualifications * International experience is preferred along with the ability to understand cultural diversity and local norms as it relates to work life.
