Position Description

Level1 - .Boeing's Advanced Technology Programs (ATP) is a business unit within Boeing Defense, Space and Security that provides creative solutions to undersea systems problems. ATP is the Boeing center of excellence in undersea systems engineering, undersea structures, Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) guidance/navigation, user interface and embedded software development for command control. ATP performs a full range of systems integration and testing and is currently located Anaheim, CA but is expected to move to Huntington Beach, CA in mid 2012. The successful Mechanical System Design Analysis Engineer candidate will support development of subsea mechanical systems including structures, robotic mechanisms, electro-mechanical and hydraulic powered actuation systems. He/she will work closely as a mentee to senior engineers. General instructions will be provided the resultant work will be reviewed for sound technical judgment/overall adequacy. Candidate will support development of highly reliable, lightweight, robust systems that can operate autonomously in the harsh undersea environment. Candidate will support efforts to generate detailed designs and perform detailed structural analysis and communicate the information to the cognizant lead engineer. Candidate will also support integrating and testing the mechanical systems and will resolve issues and provide innovative solutions to challenges in the subsea environment. Candidate will interface primarily with lead mechanical engineer. Candidate will work within Integrated Product Team (IPT) organization. Occasional travel will likely be needed to support testing at the customers test sites.

Typical Education/Experience

Level 1 - Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Level 2 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 2 or more years' experience or a Master's degree with experience. Summary of Key Qualifications Candidates: this position will typically have a minimum of 2 years work experience/related course work in related engineering disciplines (e.g. Mechanical Engineering) and/or 2 years work experience/related coursework in Subsea systems design and analysis. Experience in one or more of the following technologies or capabilities are highly desirable: 3D Modeling experience using industry standard tools (CATIA, Pro-E, UGNX, SolidWorks) SDRC I-DEAS; finite element stress analysis or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software Fluent; robotics; and/or fluid dynamics. Knowledge in subsea material selection, mechanism design and structures design is desired. Candidate must have demonstrated/proven ability to work well in a team environment and the ability to obtain a TS/SSBI security clearance.
