GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Medical Billing and Coding Associate Program Chair serves as the technical expert on program curriculum for students, faculty and advisory committees. Supervise and mentor instructors to deliver superior student success throughout the assigned program of study and maintain 100% compliance with all pertinent regulatory bodies. Supports student success and retention strategies to ensure student success objectives are met.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Planning, Direction, Coordination
- Provide subject matter expertise, direction, training, and support for program
- Collaborate with the Program Director and the Director of Program Development Training to develop, execute, and maintain program
- Propose curriculum revisions in response to industry developments, employer recommendations, and survey feedback
- Lead program start/end activities as requested by the Director of Education
- Perform instructional duties as directed
- Evaluate transfer of credit escalations as needed
- Coordinate and support any required clinical, laboratory, internship/externship, and/or residency experience required within the assigned area of programmatic responsibility in accordance with all applicable accreditation criteria and state agency regulations as needed
- Coordinate and/or participate in the development of policy revisions as requested by the Director of Education
- Support plans and programs designed to provide a superior educational experience and increase student success
- Participates in and contributes to teleconferences and meetings as required
- Perform other responsibilities as determined by the Program Director and Director of Education
2. Faculty Support
- Recruit, interview, and recommend potential faculty members as directed by the Program Director
- Provide first line of contact and assistance for faculty
- Coordinate with the Program Director and Director of Education to identify faculty development needs and participate in the development and implementation of faculty initiatives
- Participate in the development of instructional materials and methods as directed by the Program Director and Director of Education
- Ensure faculty members are in compliance with educational institution policies, accreditation standards, and that appropriate paperwork is completed in a timely manner
- Assist faculty in obtaining and using instructional technology hardware and software
- Participate in the assessment of faculty teaching abilities and recommend opportunities for improvement as directed by the Program Director and Director of Education
- Investigate and resolve faculty problems requiring academic actions, exceptions, etc. under the direction and approval of the Director of Education
- Serve as programmatic liaison to support services (Registrar’s Office, Admissions, Learner Services, Operations, Financial Aid, Career Services, Program Development)
- Ensure faculty have set up all classes prior to the beginning of each program start
- Manage faculty assignments in accordance with regulatory requirements and institutional guidelines
- Inform faculty of program and institutional policy changes in a timely manner
- Conduct a review with each instructor prior to each course revision implementation
3. Student Support
- Responsible to teach a minimum of one class on an ongoing basis
- Respond directly to certain students’ concerns, and take appropriate actions based on these concerns
- Ensure superior learning outcomes and an educational experience for students
- Provide oversight of tutoring, mentoring, and other educational assistance programs
4. Assessment and Reporting
- Contribute to administrative practices for tracking instructors
- Oversee program area to assess and evaluate the pedagogical effectiveness of the learning environment as directed by the Director of Education
- Communicate regularly and effectively on program-related issues and topics with appropriate academic leadership
5. Education Compliance Support
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and national accrediting body rules, regulations and policies
- Ensure adherence to institutional academic policies and procedure
- Work with faculty to ensure student progress in the areas of attendance and grades
- Collaborate on program and policy development as directed by the Program Director and Director of Education
- Keep abreast of policies, issues, and laws affecting learning
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Education
- A minimum of a master’s degree is required.
- A professional certification or Master’s degree may be required for particular programs.
- Formal education degrees must be from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education. The required level of academic preparation may be higher in some states.
- Experience (industry and/or teaching)
- A minimum of 5 years of applicable experience in the subject matter area is required.
- 3 years of experience in an educational environment is preferred
- 3 years of supervisory experience is preferred.
- Teaching experience in an accredited post secondary institution is also preferred.
