Medical Clerk

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES.  All Contractor employee’s shall meet the qualifications for that specialty and perform essentially the same functions, within the scope of acceptable for their technical professional discipline and standard, as those required by Army or government service technical professionals of similar experience and in similar duty assignments.  Contractor employee practices/productivity will be compared to that of other Contractor employee assigned to the same medical center.

 

The contractor shall have a minimum of six months experience within the past year related to working in a medical environment with emphasis on healthcare. Medical shall have a working knowledge of an Automated Computer System and needs basic knowledge of Military Health Care System.

 

The contractor shall possess knowledge in accomplishing clerical, statistical and data entry tasks in support of the administrative work of the office, using an automated data processing (ADP) System.

 

The contractor shall have knowledge in creating and deleting files, searching files and records, storing and extracting material from a variety of software packages, including word processing software, transmitting large amounts of information and generates cumulative, statistical, tabular, narrative and graphic reports.

 

The Contract employees shall be able to read, write, understand and speak English fluently to effectively communicate with all patients and other healthcare providers.

 

The contractor shall report to work rested and fully physically and mentally capable of performing the duties required under this contract.

 

Contract employees shall participate in all staff orientation or training that may be required as a precondition to performance as may be prescribed by the hospital commander or designee. Such orientation may include instruction on automated processing, standing operating procedures (SOP), local in-services, quality improvement programs, safety programs. This shall be conducted during the contract employees regularly scheduled shift.

 

 

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES/TASKS: THE MEDICAL CLERKS,  LABOR AND DELIVERY DUTIES SHALL INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

 

The contractor shall receive telephone calls and visitors to the clinic, ascertains the nature of the call or visit, obtains identifying information and determines the nature and urgency of the patient’s request.

 

The contractor shall apply clinic guidelines concerning release of patient information and refers patient to appropriate staff member.

 

The contractor shall verify patient eligibility for treatment through the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS) and check the patient’s military ID card.

 

The contractor shall schedule and coordinate appointments for patients with various clinics.  Ensures all treatment requested by the physician has been scheduled and reschedules appointments when necessary.

 

The contractor shall coordinate the scheduling in order to avoid conflicts in different clinic schedules.

 

The contractor shall obtain and review medical records of patients prior to scheduled appointments.
