Medical Informaticist

The Medical Informaticist is a newly formed position that will spearhead HealthGrades’ consumer-centric data set mapping and translation initiatives. HealthGrades is a fast-paced, innovative environment where the Medical Informaticist will be expected to juggle multiple priorities, shift between strategic and tactical thinking quickly, lead cross-functional teams and dig in as an individual contributor when needed. The Informaticist will be a highly visible position within the company and the successful candidate will be comfortable presenting and interacting will senior and executive management on a regular basis.       

Responsibilities include:

• Significantly advancing the HealthGrades.com and BetterMedicine.com websites toward a “consumer-centric” controlled vocabulary 

• Working closely with the editorial, data management and product teams to define HealthGrades’ standard taxonomy, hierarchy and ontology

• Identifying and prioritizing terminology modeling and mapping projects based on business objectives

• Operating advanced terminology development tools that HealthGrades either builds or licenses

• Auditing, cataloging and bridging 100+ disparate data/ content sets of condition, symptom, procedure, provider, specialty, facility, and statistical information

• Defining the strategic roadmap that aligns consumer/business value with timeline to execute

• Developing and presenting reports that monitor content mapping progress, integrity and compliance

• Supporting new product development initiatives through defining and executing appropriate data mapping and translations 

• Guiding and overseeing data mapping work executed by HealthGrades partners and third parties

• Providing Quality Assurance (QA) support for new product development that utilize defined 

• Directly sourcing and managing independent contractors, as needed, to execute content/data mapping, standardization or mapping projects

• Managing a constantly evolving data/content library to ensure the best possible consumer experience

• Making recommendations in partnership with the data, product and editorial teams to license or develop new data/content sets 

Skills, experience required:

5 or more years as a Medical Informaticist for consumer-oriented health publications, consumer website experience a plus

• MD, RN, PA or PharmD preferred  

• Direct experience bringing disparate data/content sets into a standardized taxonomy 

• Familiarity with integrating data/content based on ICD9/10 Codes, MeSH, SNOMED and DART

• Ability to articulate and present complex relationships to audiences without data, technical or medical backgrounds

• Proven track record of managing multiple high priorities simultaneously

• This is an on-site assignment.  Relocation assistance is not available.
