SUMMARY
The Medical Interpreter (MI) is responsible for the day to day interpretations for all scheduled appointments for Spanish speaking patients/families at all inpatient and outpatient clinics, Behavioral programs and Kennedy Day School, as well as urgent care and last minute requests. The Manager, Interpreter Services occasionally helps the MI in this responsibility when there are no Freelance Medical Interpreters to contract to cover the excess of appointments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible to keep department's schedule up to date in Outlook.
The MI is also responsible to take requests from Spanish and other languages, and transfer them to department's Outlook schedule. Requests for interpretations are received via Meditech, emails, and phone by the department from all inpatient and outpatient programs.
The MI is expected to distribute every day the requested appointments in an efficient manner.
The need to translate and proofread written small documents, letters, etc. may apply.
Prepares preliminary monthly reports from Access for the department's Manager. Reports include: Monthly Visits per Language, Visits per Department/Clinic/Program, In-house Telephone Interpretation per Language, In-house Telephone Interpretations per Department/Clinic/Program.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent is required.
A minimum of 80 hours of education in Interpreting skills, Code of Ethics and professional Conduct is required.
A minimum of 3-5 years of Medical Interpreting Experience is required.
Experience translating Discharge Instructions or equivalent from English into Spanish is required.
Medical Interpreter certification is required or process started, at a minimum.
