POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Manager of Laboratory Service; the Medical Lab Technician is responsible for planning and providing high quality patient diagnostic information in a manner consistent with the mission, values, and operating principles of the hospital. Accountable for ensuring that appropriate diagnostic information is provided in accordance with the highest professional standards inaccuracy, speed and consistent quality. Performs Phlebotomy as part of the role.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for performing analytical tests, monitors and ensures specimen integrity, evaluates test results to ensure that accurate levels of analytical performance are maintained. Responsible for the evaluation and review of internal quality control in accordance with regulatory requirements and takes corrective action as necessary. Reviews all laboratory slips and reports for accuracy, takes necessary corrective action in consult with the Laboratory Manager. Responsible for performance of required routine maintenance, review and documentation for all instruments. This role also requires the incumbent to perform phelebotomy.
SKILLS/ABILITIES: Advanced interpersonal skills, strong team player with s trong analytical skills. Ability to address many different problems and issues at the same time with strong problem solving and decision making ability. Ability to lift and or carry children usually not more than 40 lbs. Ability to operate complex instrumentation and pay close attention to details with the ability to analyze and evaluate test results relevant to established standards. Phlebotomy skills required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Requires an Associates Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent from an accredited College or University.The Medical Laboratory Technicianrequires MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent. The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) requires at least one (1) year working experience in all phases of Laboratory Medicine, including Pediatric Phlebotomy.
