*Medical Technologist and Continuing Education Manager

The Program Director manages, coordinates, and monitors a particular program and ensures that the goals of the program are met. The program director prepares and manages the capital and operating budgets for the program; Oversees recruitment, selection, orientation and placement of students; Provides direction and operational support for the clinical instructors in each didactic area; Teaches classes and provides individual instruction when necessary; Monitors and meets regulatory requirements to maintain required accreditation; Reviews program parameters and makes recommendations for future changes and enhancements to program. Develops and directs the continuing education program for Diagnostic Laboratory staff. Reports to Medical Director for MT Program, Administrative Director of VUMC Diagnostic Laboratories, and Director of Allied Health Education Programs. Key Functions and Expected Performances: 1. Plans curriculum for staff/students to ensure that program meets the needs of both the organization and students. Oversees recruitment, selection, and orientation. Evaluates performance of students and recommends methods to improve competency Prepares, administers, and evaluates examinations to determine both student progress and effectiveness of instruction. Investigates complaints concerning student performance and behavior and initiates appropriate corrective actions. Maintains required documentation for student'0092s files. Develops curriculum in accordance with standards delineated by NAACLS Regularly teaches classes and provides one on one instruction as applicable. Recruits faculty and clinical instructors and works with them to develop and review curriculum and course content. Provides annual professional development training to instructors, as required by NAACLS. Assists in student placement upon graduation. 2. Develops short and long term goals to ensure programs success. Leads development of short and long term program goals and objectives Assists students with their understanding of program goals and objectives. Analyzes and evaluates ongoing programs to identify areas in need of adjustments and or improvements. Makes recommendations to senior management on direction of program. Develops and reviews policies and procedures for the program, including policies for student evaluation and performance. Conducts annual meeting of advisory committee and regular meetings of program instructors. Monitors compliance with accreditation standards of NAACLS, SACS, and any other applicable agencies. Ensures the most effective operations of the program through process improvement and coordination/integration of processes with other departments. Responsible for planning, coordinating, and execution of program guidelines. Develops plans to ensure developmental objectives are being met; develop schedules and priorities to meet changing conditions. Integrates clinical training with departmental operations so that students receive suitable training and practicing clinical techniques while departments operational efficiency and support for patient care is maintained. Provides overall coordination and management for continuing education activities/programs for departmental, technical support staff. Directs the development and promotion of continuing education and mandatory required activities for staff at both main campus and satellite site. Works collaboratively with clinical management team to implement and document all required annual competency assessments for staff. Responsible for obtaining CME course approval. Completes appropriate forms as required by the RECEEM. Maintains documentation for attendance and completion of continuing education activities. Responsible for budgeting/purchasing appropriate continuing education materials. Defines and achieves financial targets in support of program goals Prepares budgets for program(s) including labor, material and supplies, services, equipment maintenance and replacement. Develops cost reduction projects and targets in collaboration with other program directors. Evaluates organizational functions and structures to best determine the allocation and utilization of resources. Identifies capital needs as necessary and prepare and submit capital budget. Creates an organizational culture that provides a safe, satisfying and enriching environment for students and employees and provides a qualified, competent staff to meet patient needs Remains current with advancements in the clinical technology field and attend seminars, reviews pertinent literature, to make it with peers and integrates professional advancements into the school program as appropriate. Encourages and supports self-development and learning for all staff through regular feedback, orientation, training programs, and work experiences. Ensures that each staff member'0092s competency is assessed and measured against performance expectations in the job description in a timely manner. Evaluates workload, priorities, and activity schedules to ensure programs remain on schedule Communicates within and across departments to maximize effectiveness, efficiency and information sharing. Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or series event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of a patient. 7. Utilizes effective communications skills in all aspects of the Program Conveys necessary information and communication to staff in multiple formats that is easy to understand and leads the individuals to take appropriate actions. Works collaboratively with other department leaders and academic affiliate representatives on matters that affect the program. Actively listens to and coordinates program activities throughout the department. Advanced level communication with the management team on relevant decisions to aid in the development of consensus decisions. Conducts, leads, and participates in meetings required to enhance or maintain the program. Promotes and markets the MT program and profession in appropriate venues both locally, regionally and nationally. 8. Demonstrates ability to implement change for positive outcomes Collaborates with department management team to discuss issues and new ideas. Recognizes and rewards improvements in and maintenance of new processes. In collaboration with departmental leaders, manages and monitors the maintenance of processes after implementation. Creates and provides training and educational tools for all departmental staff. Serves as a resource for questions and issues as they arise.
