The Merchandise Planner reports to the Director of Planning Allocation who has high expectations of her employees and believes in an open door policy. You will be given the tools to be highly successful in this role.
Position Responsibilities
- Develop collaborative relationships with the allocation and replenishment, merchandising teams and vendors
- Update OTB, develop, maintain and forecast unit plans for all key items / categories in area of responsibility
- Analyze and revise financial strategies to maximize sales and profitability. Also provide historical data current trends.
- Work with buyer, manager, and allocation and replenishment team to determine and manage exit strategies – recommend items for clearance
- Ensure that regional differences are analyzed and information used to provide container buy quantity recommendations
- Report on advertising results to the merchandising and allocation teams.
- Analyze and evaluate advertised price points relative to unit / dollar sales and margin results
Required Skills
- High energy level, comfortable in performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with normal activities
- Analytical and strategic thinker
- 5-7 years experience as a Merchandise Planner, buying experience is also a plus in the retail industry
- Intermediate level computer skills with the following: MS Excel and PowerPoint etc.
- 3 plus years of experience working with Retail IDEAS is a plus
- Demonstrated business acumen and ability to provide a leadership role
- Experience with development of new business processes
