Merchandising Assistant Product Manager
The Assistant Product Manager reports to the Senior Product Manager and is responsible to support the Senior Product Manager in all administrative and clerical duties. In addition, based on achieving written, measurable identified skills, the Assistant will be directly responsible for a segment of categories. With direction from the Senior Product Manager, the Assistant plans, sources and implements all the items within their area of responsibility.
· Responsible to aggressively identify merchandising opportunities, create products to maximize category sales and profits.
· Bring new product ideas to the Senior Product Manager for development.
· Responsible for trend forecasting and specific market knowledge through contact with vendors, trade publications and competitive shopping.
· Responsible for the implementation, development and sourcing of products within their categories at the targeted costs.
· Responsible for pricing of all merchandise with the Senior Product Manager approval.
· Responsible to specify all product information to maker, approval of initial and production samples and quality of the received merchandise.
· Responsible to coordinate, communicate and gain approval from the Senior Product Manager all changes related to product costs, construction and deliveries.
Skills required for the job:
- Must have a proven track record of 2-3 years minimum experience as Assistant Buyer or Assistant Product Manager for a catalog company.
- Must possess strong communication and negotiating skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have a strong sense of urgency.
- A college degree and PC proficiency are required.
- Pet industry experience is highly desirable.
