Messaging Engineer Job in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania US
This position is responsible for providing the architecture, infrastructure, and operational maintenance of all firmwide messaging systems. Position is also responsible for providing escalation support for other teams, troubleshooting of messaging systems, and implementation of appropriate repairs. Essential Functions
- Support and administration of the enterprise messaging systems, including Exchange, Email Archiving, Anti-Spam, Anti-Virus, and Instant-Messaging systems.
- Responsible for advanced Outlook client support as well as other 3rd party SMTP and MAPI clients.
- Configure messaging connectors and replication schedules.
- Responsible for all Exchange upgrades, changes and configuration.
- Build, configure, and support Windows servers.
- Monitor and provide diagnostic support of internal and Internet message routing and mail flow throughout the enterprise.
- Administer Active Directory related to Exchange and other components of the messaging systems.
- Design, Install and build software/hardware, including Exchange add-on software.
- Design and implement contingency and growth plans, and create/update documentation.
- Provide data extracts and generate and analyze reports from Exchange, AD, SQL, and other data sources.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the Operations and Support teams that interface with users.
- Work on teams in the development, implementation, testing, and rollout of new hardware, software, and applications.
- May volunteer or be selected to serve on special committees, work groups, project teams, or escalation teams related to various firmwide IT initiatives. Initiatives may be specific one-time events (e.g., research, testing, rollouts, upgrades, installations) or ongoing activities.
- Design and implement new messaging systems as required.
- Flexible to work overtime as required and provide after-hours support when needed.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in computer-related field or equivalent experience. Prefer Windows MCSE with Exchange certifications.
Experience:
Required:
At least five years experience of dedicated Microsoft Exchange System Administration, Windows 2003/2008 Server Support, Exchange 2003/2010, and Windows 2003/2008 Active Directory. Ability to design, build and deploy Exchange 2003/2010 high-availability Exchange systems in an enterprise production environment. Proficiency in migrating and integrating messaging systems, and experience with mergers and acquisitions of large organization's messaging environments. Good understanding of Active Directory and DNS. Ability to use AD and Exchange tools to move mailboxes, manage Exchange, produce reports, and resolve issues. Must be able to perform Mailbox and Database recovery, and perform advanced tasks such as Offline Defrags of an Exchange database with ESEUTIL. Understanding of Exchange permissions and Delegate Access. Ability to use ADMT and EMT tools and/or 3rd party equivents, such as Quest Migration Manager, to migrate AD and Exchange across Forests. Ability to build and manage Exchange Outlook Web Access, Public Folder, and Mail Gateway servers. Understanding of Exchange Recipient Policies, Message Tracking, Internet Header analysis, and Performance metrics.
Preferred:
Project management experience and strong familiarity with other technologies relating to messaging including Mobile devices, Unified Messaging, and Fax integration. Understanding of TLS, DMZ configurations, and Windows Volume Mount Points. Experience with enterprise email archiving [stub-based], hosted perimeter email gateways, and disaster recovery. Familiar with replication/migration technologies like Double-Take, Quest, NetIQ, and other Exchange 3rd party reporting and integration products. Experience with NetApp storage and Snap Manager for Exchange.
Skills:
Ability to consistently evaluate and implement procedures in areas of installation, backup, recovery and troubleshooting mailflow. Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills. Excellent verbal and oral communication skills. Must be able to work independently, as a team member, and as a team leader, as situations dictate. Ability to adjust to constantly changing priorities and work well with multiple priorities/projects in a deadline-driven environment. Remain calm in high-pressure situations. Detail oriented, and able to complete tasks and make recommendations with long-term strategies in mind. Highly customer focused.

Typical Physical Demands:
Sitting, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching. Lifting PCs, monitors, and other IT equipment. Manual dexterity and range of hearing/vision sufficient to operate standard office machines.

Able to deal with stress associated with fast-paced work environment. Ability to effectively handle multiple and occasionally competing priorities and tasks. Working Conditions:
Works in a typical office setting. Will be called upon to work overtime and carry a Blackberry. Overnight travel is occasionally required.
