Metallurgical Technician Job in East Aurora, New York US

The Materials Process Technician (MPET) I is primarily required to perform various chemical, material process tasks to support work in MPE. Primarily these include Metallurgical Laboratory materials inspection/evaluation, Materials Mechanical Property evaluation, Raw Material Inspection and SEM/EDS analysis. Secondary tasks include Chemical Solution Analysis and Digital Micro/Macro Materials Photography. This position works with the other MPETs in the department as a self-directed team participating in a task rotation system that provides cross training in all the skill sets used as an MPET. The MPET must be flexible to a changing workload. The incumbent shall report to the Materials Process Engineering Manager, Supervisor, Senior Engineer, and Project Engineer.

Accountabilities:
1. Entry/training level metallurgical skills.
2. Competently perform a limited number of chemical, material, process, and environmental skill sets including evaluation of materials and fluids, collection of data, disposal of hazardous waste, searches for specific causes of problems, and review and approve all raw material physical property certifications.
3. Prepare, send, and track samples requiring additional material tests. Maintain records. Expedite inspections as required.
4. Provide laboratory support (test and report data) to MPEE and other engineering personnel in conducting failure investigation, post-test analyses, and manufacturing trouble-shooting efforts.
5. Support all audits and inspections, both by internal and by outside agencies, of the raw material control/inspection system.
6. Operate and maintain laboratory and analytical equipment and supplies in a manner to insure uninterrupted, reliable results.
7. Participate in MPET team organization and training.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION/DEGREE: AAS degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Chemical Technology (or equivalent) or as an alternative, a minimum of 2 years of college level education with additional related work experience.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: MPET I, 0-1 year experience,

TRAVEL: MPET I may have 1-2 trips offsite to assist other facilities.

OTHER: Incumbent will be required to routinely use computers. Will be required to lift materials weighing 50 pounds and have the ability to climb ladders.
