Metals Cost Analyst – Mine Site Economics research recruitment
Our client is a global firm that provides highly specialized industry research to industry participants such as Mining companies, multinationals and the finance industry. We are looking for a Metals cost analyst who will be responsible for researching the supply side of the metals industry. The research covers both operations and projects and entails evaluation of operational competitiveness from asset variables though onsite costs and offsite realisation costs.
The scope of the role also covers project evaluation and supports asset valuation. The team produces regular client research for base and precious metals industries and undertakes client specific consulting assignments on the same.
The role will require liaison with other metals analysts to form robust views on production economics and interaction with supply and demand and markets.
Main responsibilities include the following analytical tasks
• Analysis of the cost structure of individual mine assets including operational benchmarking, as well as top-down reconciliation of corporate financial accounts to individual assets
• Analyze the broader industry to draw together the individual analyses and to provide the client base with concise, timely and insightful analysis of industry trends and events
• Establish and maintain contact with producers/ stakeholders to secure proprietary data
• Visit assets globally to acquire data and knowledge
• Identify, obtain, validate, and critically assess financial accounts and operational benchmarking data
• Contributing towards the global analysis of specific industries in the Metals sector
• Contributing towards the enhancement of existing research and to the development of new products in the metals arena
• Effectively communicate analysis findings to clients through written deliverables and face-to-face presentations
• Managing specific research projects involving participation from team members in different international offices
• Providing the knowledge on which to support consultancy in this business area
Business Development responsibilities
• Participate in supporting sales and marketing activities
Assist in the on-going development of client relationships
• Co-operate and communicate fully with Consulting, Sales and Marketing teams in the Business Development process
• Visit and engage with clients and prospects to foster good exchange of information
Desired attributes
• Ability to critically assess new sources of information within a complex analytical framework in an appropriate timeframe
• Desire and curiosity to complement their existing operational knowledge with an understanding of how operational competitiveness is related to global competitiveness and how the cost structure of the industry
• Degree-qualified in a relevant discipline (e.g. Economics/ Business or Mining/ Geology/ Metallurgical Engineering etc.), the role holder will have knowledge of the metals industry gained from experience in an operational environment. Ideally you will have a minimum three to five years spent on site and you will understand mine site costs and budgets. Alternatively, previous employment in a resource company in a non-operational role, or a banking background would be considered.
