We currently are seeking a dynamic, strategic, and innovative Manager, Reserach Development Analytical. This key position will be based in our packaging operations in Valencia, CA (So. CA).
Purpose of Job:
Provides strategic leadership to the R D Analytical staff. Develops and maintains a strong working relationship with USP (United States Pharmacopia) and other relevant agencies to influence policies, testing requirements and test method that may give Pharmavite a competitive edge. Seeks out and leverages new technologies that support our innovation objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Achieves results and brings out the best in people by:
o Establishing job design and ensuring appropriate staffing to deliver the department's strategy operating plan and short-term objectives.
o Communicating department goals and objectives and cascading them to others, ensuring workload is distributed appropriately to achieve goals and objectives

o Collaboratively creating development plans and coaching individuals in achieving them.

- Develops departmental strategies and tactics to meet business goals.
- Direct efforts to deliver on Pharmavite innovation and renovation pipeline. Assures projects are adequately resourced and assay results are accurate and reliable, meeting standardized turn-around time and throughput.
- Operates collaboratively across various functions within the organization and with outside labs to meet project milestones.
- Develops and maintains a strong network within USP and other relevant agencies in order to influence policies, testing requirements and test methodology for dietary supplement.
- Seeks out and leverages new, enabling technologies from external resources such as vendors and academia that support our innovation objectives.
- Collaborates with QC and/or outside labs to ensure seamless method validation and transfer.
- Manages lab facility, equipment and budget. Conducts cost/benefit analysis on capital purchases.
- Participates in analytical method development, testing and investigations, instrumental in the implementation of corrective and preventive actions to minimize errors and maximize productivity.
- Drives productivity and assay accuracy in the RD Analytical Lab by keeping current on state-of-the-art analytical science and accelerated stability techniques. .
- Participates in Business sub-teams as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide input on timelines and to address analytical issues.
- Drives internal continuous improvement.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Requires a four-year college or university degree or its equivalent in Chemistry or related science. Advanced degree is a plus.
Certification:
None. A Hazardous Waste, Health and Safety certification is preferred.
Experience:
Requires five to eight years experience in managing chemical, biological, or pharmaceutical testing lab. Experience in nutraceutical and/or supplement development is a plus. USP experience is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong managerial skills in projects and people.
- Strong knowledge of chemical analysis and laboratory instrumentation such as High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC/UPLC), Inductivity Coupled Plasma (ICP), Spectrophotometer, (Gas Chromatography Fourier Transformed Infrared (GC FTIR), and dissolution apparatus.
- Strong hands-on analytical skills/techniques, method development and validation.
- Competent knowledge in GMP, Good Laboratory Practices, Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and USP requirements.
- Proficient in statistical analysis. Knowledgeable in Design of Experiments is a plus.
- Possesses strong teamwork and interpersonal skills to facilitate interaction with cross-functional team members such as RD, QC/QA, Regulatory and outside vendors and consultants.
- Strong project, organizational and time management skills. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are required.
- Must be familiar with analytical laboratories and procedures along with knowledge of OSHA and safety requirements.
- Proficient in team building to ensure employees will work well together to increase efficiency and productivity.
Physical Requirements:
General office environment, ability to sit for long periods of time. Ability to move about an office.

Supervisory Responsibility:
The incumbent has direct supervisory responsibility for six to ten employees.
