MI & Financial Control- ABS Investments- Conduits recruitment
Responsibilities:
- To provide timely, accurate, fully substantiated and compliant financial and management reporting of the ABS Investments - Conduits businesses;
- Preparation of solo and consolidated IFRS accounts submission of Group disclosures
- PL and balance sheet substantiation of the general ledger timely clearance of breaks
- Working with Valuation and Accounting Control and Operations to ensure accuracy and completeness of balances passing to the general ledger.
- Liaising with and providing information to Statutory Accounts team for the timely production of Annual Financial Statements
- Ownership of the daily PL process for the vehicles and resolving issues with Front Office and Operations.
- Preparation of Management Accounts and business driven commentaries and presenting them to the Front Office.
- Attending to ad hoc requests from FO and proactively responding to issues.
- Working with Operational teams based offshore to resolve outstanding breaks and enhance controls to mitigate operational risks.
- Analytical review to provide meaningful business-informed commentary on the financials
- Reduction of operational risk and cost through automation and process efficiency projects
- Effective communication with stakeholders and other support teams and escalation of major issues to line management as appropriate
- Involvement in the various on going process improvement projects.
- Due to the nature of the asset class the team looks after, this is a high profile area which attracts senior management attention. The role therefore presents a good opportunity for the right candidate to interact with senior management.
- Involvement in reviewing the accounting impact of new trades and restructuring initiatives.
- Provide a flexible, accurate and timely service to all stakeholders, including the Front Office, Finance and Risk, working in conjunction with the rest of product control, Operations and IT
Major Challenges
- To maintain an effective financial control environment, across a range of products and systems, with minimal IT resource.
- Problem solving - investigation of PL variances; balance sheet account values
- Reliance on manual systems – ability to assist with improvements to current processes and systems
- Working under pressure to meet tight deadlines
- To retain the confidence of the front office, senior management and finance in the reliability, timeliness and accuracy of product control numbers.
- Maintaining drive to improve efficiency and controls through focused change initiatives
- Using judgement in handling and/or escalating issues
Education Experience
- University degree (Class 2:1 or equivalent) – Relevant degree
- Accounting qualification
- Product control experience from major investment bank within Fixed Income, Credit and/ or Structured Credit
- Experience with SPE accounting and IFRS knowledge will be considered an advantage (hedging, pl recognition, securitisation)
- Demonstrated ability to implement change, particularly in improvement of controls, automation.
- Market awareness
- Solid product knowledge – ABS, CDS, Bonds, Swaps, CP
- Accounting skills – working knowledge of IAS39 and IFRS7
- Strong Analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to implement change, particularly in improvement of controls and automation.
- Strong MS Excel – ideally VBA experience
- Ability to work independently and take proactive action
