Microfinance Analyst recruitment

CDC's focus on frontier markets requires exceptional investment professionals with first-class commercial judgement, who share their development goals and who want to put their skills to work in some of the world’s most demanding business environments.

The Analyst will be responsible for analysing new debt and equity investments in microfinance and preparing and presenting investment screening papers, as well as preparing and presenting monitoring papers. 

Day-to-day duties include:

•  New Business: supporting a team working on a new microfinance investment propositions either through funds, co-financing or direct investments. You will work on discrete pieces of work, including the initial screening, market analysis, track record analysis, etc and will draft the relevant sections of the investment review and recommendation papers. Over time you will gain experience in all aspects of due diligence, and will become exposed to key fund, equity and debt terms. Over time you will take responsibility for a broader range of due diligence and deal completion tasks.

• Portfolio management: supporting role on a portfolio of existing investments. Responsibilities include reviewing quarterly reports, preparing monitoring papers, expediting missing data (eg ESG data), reviewing valuations, attending Monitoring Committee and Valuation Committee meetings, reviewing drawdown notices.

• Evaluations: the Analyst will play a supporting role on Evaluations of investments. This will involve collecting the necessary data, preparing an initial list of meetings/calls, making field visits as necessary, assisting in the drafting of the Evaluation reports.

• Research and strategy: Updating market information on the microfinance sector.

• Knowledge management: the Analyst will keep up-to-date deal flow, deal management and portfolio monitoring databases for all investments on which he is a team member.

Suitable candidates will have:

• At least two years business experience within an international financial environment.

• Good credit analysis and financial modelling skills

• An active and demonstrable interest in developing countries.

• As a member of a small team, a flexible and “hands on” approach is a prerequisite.

• PC literacy, with a good understanding of database functionality.
