Position Description
Here is your opportunity to be a summer intern in Boeing, a cutting edge global aerospace company. Boeing is a leader in defense, space and security systems including the F/A-18 Super Hornet and the F-15 Strike Eagle fighters; the C-17 Globemaster transport; and the Small Diameter Bomb and Joint Direct Attack Munition currently in production at the St. Louis site. Summer interns will work on these and related types of military and commercial aircraft products, and supporting technology to develop technical and leadership skills and to experience a challenging introduction to engineering careers within the Boeing Company while having hands on experience. One key engineering area that enables these products, in which Boeing is seeking summer interns, is Materials, Processes Physics. MPP is a multi-discipline engineering function that provides and maintains technical excellence in parts, materials, processes and physical science in support of engineering, manufacturing and supplier management. This function is comprised of the following areas of specialization: metals, composites/non-metallic materials, chemistry/environmental science, physical science, electrical/electronics components/materials, mechanical components/materials, thermal management systems/ceramics, non-destructive evaluation, manufacturing methods/facilities/equipment design and development, robotics/automation, and product specifications/standards. In support of these areas, MPP has numerous test laboratories fully equipped and well staffed with capable technicians as well as the associated accumulation of related technical information on aircraft, missile and space systems. Candidates selected for these 2012 intern positions will be assigned to work under the direction of experienced engineers within the occupation and skill area that directly relates to their college engineering or science major. Preferred majors (or equivalent) include Material Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Physics, Physical Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Manufacturing Technology.
