The software release manager serves as a liaison between varying technical and function leads to guarantee smooth and timely delivery of system / software updates to applications supported by Corporate MIS. This role is the gatekeeper to the production systems and applications and is responsible for overseeing the deployment and packaging of software changes in the production environment. This position is responsible for the scheduling and management of regular updates to production systems in accordance with the Corporate MIS Change Management Policy and workflow procedures.This role develops, manages and maintains the production code and documentation baseline in the safe store repository. This position will champion the implementation of the Quest Stat Tool.Additional responsibilities will be to assist in day to day Production Control activities to include: user access management, problem resolution and after hours support when required.
JOB REQUIREME!NTS
ESSENTIAL:
- Manages the release process end-to-end, from the planning of release content through to actual release deployment to production. Plans the deployment of software releases of changes to packaged systems and the in-house applications.
- Maintains documentation associated with the Corporate MIS Change Management Policy, while actively championing and evolving the process to support release management in an ITIL Change Management process.
- Works with the end users, and internal functional and technical teams to prioritize and scope scheduled releases with completion dates for each release. Monitors progress of scheduled releases through regression cycles by employing appropriate metrics and management reporting. Facilitates all release meetings.
- Documents, concisely and fully and appropriately distributes all software releases. Schedules reviews as necessary to ensure all stakeholders are aware! of the impacts of a release.
- Assist Production Control inthe installation of releases requires working knowledge of Oracle EBS, Linux and Solaris.
- Coordinates and participates in regular post-implementation reviews and presents release metrics in order to assist with the evaluation of release quality.
- Supports the Configuration Management process to maintain current release information. This will include population and maintenance of the Quest Stat tool.
- Configures and implements automated tool and/or manual processes that integrate the Release Management function with other ITIL processes, working individually or as part of a team.
- Drives continuous improvement through trend reporting analysis and metrics management.
- Tracks and reports status and other metrics against goals on an ongoing basis.
- Assist in the control of the version migration process as each version moves through the development and testing process. Ensure changes are implemented through def!ined test cycles.
- Plans and supports Conversion test migrations and production deployments. Plans and supports deployments across multiple environments.
- Works with other technical team members to resolve all release related issues.
- Provides input to the Quality Assurance function when planning the release process; and assists with the planning and support of user acceptance testing (UAT), ensuring all appropriate release documentation and sign-offs are completed for a given release.
- Coordinates all testing with internal technical team end users prior to production. Advises end users of all changes and impacts prior to release.
- Works flexible hours to avoid impact to production systems.
- Conducts self in an appropriate manner as a representative of Corporate MIS, working effectively in a diverse work environment.
