Kelly Scientific Resources has an immediate opening for a Mix Room Supervisor at a production bakery in SE Portland, Oregon. The Mix Room Supervisor proactively pursues excellence through the help of the assistant supervisor and department employees. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager with responsibility to the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Manager. This position will be offered on a temporary to hire basis. 1. Responsible for implementing 5S, KANBAN, 5Y Root Cause Analysis, and Lean Manufacturing Principles. 2. Responsible for creating employee work schedules and ensuring proper communication when schedule changes are necessary. 3. Responsible for ensuring that Assistant Supervisors are adequately trained to perform the essential functions of their position. 4. Responsible for skills and performance evaluations for Assistant Supervisors and department staff. This also includes the creation and distribution of verbal/written warnings and documented counseling. 5. Responsible for ensuring that the work area is prepared by providing adequate supplies for each work station. 6. Stay abreast of day-to-day departmental and/or companies activities using appropriate communication tools (i.e. in-person, phone, voicemail, email). 7. Responsible for ensuring the appropriate inventory levels of packing supplies needed for pending orders, and ensuring that work stations are adequately stocked with necessary supplies (packing materials, pens, thermometers, etc.) 8. Responsible for ensuring that all department employees, including Assistant Supervisors, are properly trained on Standard Operating Procedures for all equipment and processes in the mix room. a. Responsible for ensuring there is an adequate amount of wheat soaked to cover the day?s production needs. Communicate any shortages to the employees grinding wheat. b. Responsible for ensuring that: i. Soakers and sponges are set according to specifications. ii. All organic certification policies are adhered to, paying special attention to the recipe documentation of lot code tracking. c. Responsible for running mix tests weekly d. Responsible for verifying the calibration of all scales, thermometers or other instruments used in the Mix department. e. Work with other managers to trouble shoot production issues with a goal of ensuring product quality and building employee morale. f. Responsible for monitoring ingredients, scaling, pre-scaling, soaking wheat, grinding sprouted wheat, setting soakers, setting sponges, final mixing, following mixing procedures. g. Responsible for morning start up routine including, but not limited to: turning on ovens and monitoring the proof boxes until oven staff arrives. REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 1. High school diploma or GED, Bachelor Degree preferred 2. Experience in basic mathematical calculations, reading, and record keeping. 3. Experience supervising others including delegation and conflict resolution required. 4. Bakery production or similar work experience. 5. Must be able to analyze machine operations and remedy the situation. 6. Training in the lock-out/tag-out procedure for cleaning and maintaining makeup equipment is required. 7. Must complete a Red Cross First Aid/CPR course. JOB CONDITIONS: Work week generally consists of 40 hours. Workday?s schedule is based on the shift to which the worker is assigned and may be adjusted as needed to meet customer orders. Days off may be any two of the seven calendar days. Worker subject to work inside protected from weather conditions. Worker subjected to temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. More extreme temperatures possible during summer months. Worker subject to noise sufficient to cause worker to shout in order to be heard. Worker subject to hazards such as proximity to moving parts, electrical current, and moving objects carrying considerable weight and force. Must be able to work in environment containing flour dust, wheat, milk and nuts (allergens). PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 1. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move, objects, troughs, etc. 2. Must be able to ascend and descend building stairways, ladders and ramps to reach job assignments and perform tasks required in job description. Specific tasks require standing, climbing, reaching, walking, lifting, grasping, feeling, bending and twisting. 3. Must have mental and visual ability to identify product varieties, read charts of manufacturing standards and read scale weights and equipment controls. Must have the ability to perform repetitive tasks. Must be capable of understanding work instructions both oral and written and reading notices and work schedules as posted.
