Job Context:
The jobholder is responsible for ensuring an adequate and effective AML and sanctions framework is established, kept up to date and adhered to within the Bahrain BSC business and to highlight/manage corrective action where applicable. This is in addition to running the day to day activities of the AML and sanctions team in Compliance in a competent and efficient manner.
Reporting to the Group MLRO, the jobholder is expected to make day to day decisions on routine matters. Referral to the Group MLRO is expected for high risk and complex matters and new initiatives.
The Bahrain MLRO is an experienced AML and sanctions professional with at least 5 years experience in a wholesale banking or similar environment. The job holder should also have proven management and leadership experience in order to effectively manage the team, day to day work processes and influence business managers to implement/adhere to financial crime requirements.
A track record of successful stakeholder management is required to ensure change initiatives are successfully implemented and sustained.

Outside the Company
• External auditors for the purpose of the CBB annual Financial Crime review
• CBB for day to day matters under the direction of the Group MLRO
Within the Company
• All departments of ABC, Bahrain BSC including the business units, support functions and Group audit
• On occasions other Group units in various locations predominantly through their respective MLROs/Compliance departments
Job Requirements:
Knowledge
• Working knowledge of applying CBB Financial Crime regulations
• Understanding of UN, EU, OFAC and CBB sanctions
• In depth knowledge of KYC requirements
• Understanding of client and payment screening activities
• Working knowledge of applying a risk based approach
Education / Certifications
• Educated to degree level
• Relevant professional qualification (e.g. ACAMs, Diploma in Anti Money Laundering)
Experience
• At least 5 years in AML and sanctions roles within Banking or Financial Institutions
• Experience in setting up and sustaining processes to comply with relevant regulations
• Managing others
• Effectively documenting and disseminating requirements

• High level of communication skills in English is essential (additionally Arabic is desirable)

• Self-motivated and a team player
• Commercial awareness
• Pays attention to detail as well as seeing the bigger picture
