Modeling Analysis Engineer

Ingersoll Rand's Climate Solutions sector delivers energy-efficient HVACR solutions for customers globally. Its world class brands include Hussmann, a manufacturer of refrigeration and food merchandising solutions, Thermo King, the leader in transport temperature control and Trane, provider  of energy efficient heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, building and contracting services, parts support and advanced controls for homes and commercial buildings.

The Trane Modeling Analysis Engineer supports major design and product teams with modeling analysis tool usage for faster, first-time-right innovation and greater productivity.  The role develops and maintains predictive engines and data processing applications for HVACR components systems as well as improves and standardizes application of tools across CS, providing sound guidance to end-users and sharing best practices.  The chosen candidate also works closely with global team members, cross-functional associates and internal customers in dynamic environment, to collaborate, gather requirements, provide updates/reports, training etc. as well as document work per established internal standards and suggest improvements to procedures.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES (others may be added):

* Understand and define technical problems related to product and technology development.
* Translate the definitions into mathematical equation sets and algorithms (models).
* Validate models against lab data and other sources.
* Document and present models as part of a formal review process.
* Work closely with global team members, cross-functional associates and internal customers in dynamic environment, to collaborate, gather requirements, provide updates/reports, training ...
* Work with universities, professional organizations and consultants to leverage modeling work done externally.

Education Standard:  Bachelors Degree
Education Type:  Mechanical Engineering

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

* Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 7 years of relevant work experience required.

OR -

* Masters Degree in Engineering and at least 5 years of relevant work experience required.

* 2 years of HVAC experience required

ESSENTIAL SKILLS or KNOWLEDGE:

* Formal course work or experience in thermal systems, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer as well as basic electrical engineering required.
* Experience in using software packages for problem formulation and simultaneous equation solving is required.
* Experience in modeling and/or simulating HVACR components and systems (heat exchangers, fans, compressors, motors, power converters,     variable-speed drives, chillers, etc.) is preferred.
* Experience and/or interest in leadership is desirable.
* Experience in statistics and numerical analysis is desirable.
* Experience in programming (FORTRAN, C++, C#, VB.NET) is a plus.
* Experience in mathematical modeling tools (MATLAB, MathCAD, EES, TK-Solver) is a plus.
* Coursework or experience in structural mechanics is a plus.
* May need to travel up to 10% to support global projects and external modeling-related interactions.
