Position Description:
Morgan Stanley's Finance department is responsible for Profit Loss / Balance Sheet Reporting, and other financial reports required for both Internal Management Reporting as well as External Regulatory Agencies for the entire firm. Finance IT provides the technology solutions that enable the global Finance division to do so in a timely and accurate manner. Recently Finance Technology commenced a multi-year series of renovation projects to create the future state platform for the next 20+ years. The Balance Sheet Unification and Cash Traceability project is one of those projects.
Balance Sheet Unification and Cash Traceability project aims to provide clarity into how business units use cash and how much funding cost they incur. This enables the business to make optimal decisions on how to utilize the available cash. The system does this by processing a wide variety of business events and other data, applying calculations across that data, and producing detailed information for reporting.
The application DBA is required to participate and support the database tasks associated with the project. The primary responsibilities are:
- Database development and code reviews.
- Performance tuning/troubleshooting.
- Supporting the day to day development activities by working with the global development
team on database issues.
- Deployment of releases for the various development and QA database environments.
The position requires a hands-on database technologist with database administration and development experience. Also required is demonstrated database development experience using stored procedures . Good communications (written/verbal) are needed to work with the global project team. The person should also be a self starter able to drive tasks to completion independently.
Skills Required:
- Significant years experience in the database development life cycle
- Significant experience in design, development and support of large Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence related database applications.
- Significant experience with DB2 UDB running on a distributed platform.
- Experience with DB2 UDB DPF in a multi-partitioned distributed environment.
- Experience of database programming including stored procedure and trigger development.
- Experience with VLDB (very large database) environments (multi terabyte).
- DB2 UDB performance tuning experience.
- Strong SQL skills including the ability to rewrite complex queries for performance improvements.
- Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask and work with remote teams.
Skills Desired:
- Familiarity with an ETL product such as Informatica.
- Perl or other scripting language.
- Knowledge of Perforce or equivalent code management software.
- Knowledge of business intelligence tools such as Business Objects or Cognos.
- Data Modeling using a CASE tool. Erwin preferred.
