Naval Engineer IV
Job Summary:
Develops and applies advanced engineering theories, methods, and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex and advanced technical problems. Directs projects or major phases of design projects and coordinates the efforts of technical support staff. Analyzes, evaluates, and plans methods of approach and organizes means to achieve the solution of complex technical problems. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Recommends corrections in technical analysis and design to ensure project completion. May supervise or coordinate the work of engineers, other professionals, technicians and others who assist in specific assignments.

Responsibilities:
- Works toward goals and objectives where guidance or precedent is generally not available.
- Usually under consultative direction.
- Determines the appropriate approach to assignment.
- Guides the successful completion of projects or significant milestones within large projects.
- Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in serious delays to the success of important project milestones or awards of a phase of a program.
- Problems are often unusually complex (without precedent) and facts may be insufficient or misleading.
- Solutions require the integration of complicated concepts and considerable creative thought.
- Contacts often require interactions with senior managers (inside and outside division) on significant technical / operational matters requiring considerable coordination within and between organizations.
- May require the ability to persuade / negotiate in order to provide advice or direction to management, peers and customers on advanced technical issues.
- May require use of highly sensitive and confidential information.
- This position serves as a resource to others across the organization.
- May be responsible for leading a small group of personnel.
- May be responsible for planning and establishing priorities for a small group of personnel.
Education:
- Bachelors Degree* with 8 – 11 years experience or
- Masters Degree* with 6 – 9 years experience or,
- Ph.D.* with 3 – 6 years experience
