Position Summary:

Join a large and well established group of NNP’s that have been providing care in the university NICU for 25 years. We have a strong collaborative care model that involves a large amount of autonomy and responsibility from each team member. The NNP service is involved in the care of all of the patients in the NICU. We are present at every admission and mentor students and residents in training every day. We have a team of 6 NNP’s that cover each dayshift and 2 NNP’s that cover each nightshift. We have a democratic scheduling model that allows for quarterly scheduling requirements and great flexibility of shift work. We are valued as clinical experts in the NICU and provide a key element to the care of all of the NICU patients

This position serves as a consultant, clinician, licensed independent practitioner, and educator within the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. This position demonstrates clinical expertise and in-depth knowledge in the care and education for neonatal conditions and problems. This position serves as an educator to nursing staff, nurse practitioner students, residents, and fellows. This position also serves as an educator to patient families.

Essential Functions:

• Assesses, plans and prioritizes clinical care needs for all patients in the NICU.
• Demonstrates ability to perform clinical privileges as defined on University of Utah Hospital and Clinics Privilege Application.
• Daily patient rounds that coordinate and evaluate clinical treatment of patients with attending neonatologist.
• Collaborates and makes referrals to consulting medical services to provide treatment for patients in NICU.
• Functions as a resource and preceptor for nurse practitioner students in training.
• Functions as a resource and consultant for residents during their NICU rotations.
• Provides antenatal consultation and education to families in labor and delivery that will require NICU services.
• Meets national certification requirements for 45 CEU’s every three years in clinical areas that are determined by the National Certification Corporation.
• Provides clinical summary and review of patient medical history to referring community providers upon discharge.

• Ability to provide care to high risk neonatal-perinatal patients and their families.

Qualifications:

Required

• Current licensure as an APRN in the State of Utah
• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or obtain one within one month of hire.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Certification and/or Program Instructor status.

Preferred

• Master’s degree in Nursing with emphasis in neonatal practitioner/clinical specialty.
