Network Architect Job in San Diego 92110, California US
Amco is two things, education and innovation.
Amco started as one man’s vision to solve a simple problem for the students of his own school. In a little over a decade we’ve grown into an international multimillion dollar company positively affecting the lives of over 150,000 students a year.
Despite our rapid growth we’ve remained true to our roots in education and innovation, and today we have a great team with a passion for what we do that feels like a family. We have a culture of growth and development, and mentoring the “kids” is a big part of what we do here.
So, where do you fit into all this?
We have some very cool new infrastructure to roll out this year, with a large deployment of an offline sync product in hundreds of school sites (behind their tight firewalls) across Latin America and Spain. We also have a range of existing products that need some scaling attention, and we’re looking for someone who can take complete ownership of those issues - including providing advice to our app dev team on how to build the app in order to take advantage of whatever server technologies you decide on.
If we sound like a good fit for you culturally, and if our problems pique your interest, the following will apply to you:
- You live and breathe Linux and GNU - tying your shoelaces intimidates you more than recompiling a kernel
- Setting up a server is something you can do in your sleep (because many late nights you actually have done it while sleep walking)
- You understand that persistence is not the same as RDBMS, and the pros and cons of the alternatives
- You have the confidence and experience to direct the app dev team in how best to structure the apps to be both secure and scalable in whatever topology you create.
- You’re comfortable working with virtual servers, file servers, CDNs and all those other things that mere mortals think are exotic.
- You’re a strong network engineer with tons of hands on experience and the ability to lead a small team of 2-4 engineers/technicians.
- You will solve complex network problems using best practices in a fast paced environment.
- You’re an opinionated self-starter who wants to own what he creates and yet who holds sacred the business requirement to always make yourself redundant.
What else?
We’re in downtown San Diego. This is an on-site role (We realize remote-working is the future, but trust us, our office is just as good as working from home). Pay is negotiable, but I’m in the six-figure ballpark – so bring your A game. We have great medical, dental and vision options. We have 10% Friday where you spend the afternoon working on whatever you want. Then we break out into gaming, beer and pizza.
