Network Designer - Expert
Job Description: The desired candidate will support a program providing network operations and sustainment services (network management, information assurance services, training), network engineering services (network architecture, systems engineering, information assurance engineering, project management), and network information assurance services. This position requires that the candidate determine user requirements and design specifications for a telecommunications network management system, and plan and implement system upgrades.
Required Skills:
- Communicate with customers, sales staff, or marketing staff to determine needs.
- Research and test new or modified hardware or software products to determine performance and interoperability.
- Communicate with vendors to gather information about products, to alert them to future needs, to resolve problems, or to address system maintenance issues.
- Determine specific network hardware or software requirements, such as platforms, or interfaces.
- Prepare detailed system specifications, including diagrams, charts, equipment configurations, and recommended technologies.
- Design, build, or operate equipment configuration prototypes, including network hardware, software, servers, or server operation systems.
- Develop and implement solutions for network management problems.
- Explain design specifications to integration or test engineers.
- Develop procedures to track, project, or report network availability, reliability, capacity, or utilization.
- Estimate time and materials needed to complete projects.
- Prepare or monitor project schedules, budgets, or cost control systems.
- Participate in technology upgrade or expansion projects, including installation of hardware and software and integration testing.
- Supervise engineers and other staff in the design or implementation of network solutions.
Must hold an active Secret clearance.
Desired Skills:
- Coordinate installation of new equipment and software.
- Design, organize, and deliver product awareness, skills transfer, and product education sessions for staff and suppliers.
- Develop or maintain project-reporting systems.
- Prepare design presentations and proposals for staff or customers.
- Experience with Cramer and Opsware network management software
Required Experience and Education: Minimum 8 years with a BS in Engineering, or Information Technology, or equivalent education and experience.
This position is contingent on contract award, with an anticipated start date of December 20, 2011.
